Hemorrhoidectomy – incontinence complication?

Posted , 3 users are following.

About six months ago I had an “emergency” hemorrhoidectomy. I’ve described the ordeal on this site, it sucks. Never again. It’s been healed up but I have lingering minor, but annoying incontinence. I have read where

this is actually a pretty common complication of a hemorrhoidectomy, something my doctor did not mention at the time.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, have you come up with any solutions? There is no chance I’m getting any more surgery.

Thanks

I don't have advice or anything to offer, but would like to read your post about your emergency hemorrhoid removal surgery. I looked but so far have not found it. Wound you mind telling me how it us listed?

I do hope you get some relief and soon! ☺

Thank You, Jane!I went and read your information.. I have hemorrhoids, and believe I have a prolapsed rectum and dropped pelvic floor. I also have an autoimmune disease that is vascular, which inflames the hems more. 30 years ago, I was in so much pain that I had an inplanted Morphine pump put in. Which keeps my stools hard. I really do not want surgery down there, but afraid I will have to have it before the year is up.

I hope you get some answers! Have you had your pelvic floor checked? If you have a rectocele , it can cause stool leakage.

I went to see a Colorectal Surgeon In NYC about this. He is a top doc in this field, I’ve know him for some years now. He did not perform my hemorrhoidectomy in 2018 but I have been having this issue.. I him do an exam, including Anoscope, and tell me what’s what. I learned some things.

It is not unusual to have residual effects for months after. In fact, many people are not fully healed until after a year. The worst is usually over in the 8-10 week timeframe on average. But lingering issues can remain much much longer. I had this kind of incontinence problem. Turns out this is not uncommon at all. It’s not really incontinence, it’s more of a healing pattern that impacts BMs. In my case he expects it to resolve in 2019 without any further surgery.
