Hemorrhoids. how long before doctor referred you?

Posted , 9 users are following.

I was wondering how long you all suffered before the doctors referred you. To a specialist or for surgery?

Ive been suffering with an external prolapsed hemorrhoid for two weeks now. Im in agony all day and the pain wakes me up at night.

due to other health conditions i need my sleep and no stress as it makes it worse. So i feel at the minute that i cant cope.

ive been to the doctor three times but they said they wouldnt even consider the next option until its been "months and months"

ive been given anusol cream and suppository.

I was just wondering what other peoples experiences were

thank you

    Hi Gemma,

I would ask for a referral - say it's affecting your life. A specialist will know exactly what they are and what treatment is best for you. In my experience GP's just tried to fob me off, it wasn't until I saw a specialist and had the HALO procedure that I got sorted. Mine didn't bleed but were extremely painful. Good luck.

Ive been back to the doctors twice since my last post and they still wont refer me. I even asked for a letter to go private but some how only came out with a prescription for more anusol instead.

I have to say things have improved im no longer a sobbing mess 24hours a day. But then i get a day like today where the pain takes me by surprise and walking down the street im suddenly hopping about like im wearing a full body electric shock suit. Probably very funny to watch not so funny to be dealing with

I had no bleeding at all then suddenly started bleeding not loads turned out to be an infection and since that has been treated the bleeding has stopped again.

feel very dissappointed with the doctors been with them five years and they have always been so fantastic x

From what ive gathered on the forums they dont seem to care if you are in agony or its affecting your life. Only if your bleeding and can see why with a case like yours but would be nice to feel like the doctor took me seriously over how much pain im in,all i keep getting told is its not that large or been that long

Hi gemma if your still having these issues and your gp won't help maybe go to your emergency room at the hospital and ask to see a doctor they may be able to sort it out there I find if i need something done the hospital don't muck around as much as gps and things will be done faster I have been bleeding so I have been referred but if your gp won't help just try the hospital directly hope they can help you cause as per most on this forum I feel your pain hun and has the gp tested your iron levels as it may help speed things up if you are low in iron xo

    Hi

I've been suffering since I was 16. From 19 there was lots of blood. Finally over 7 years later and being unable to sit, walk, stand, lie down I have been referred and I put it down to the doctor. Im so grateful to have finally been taken seriously. Previously just been given a prescription and told to come back when they flare up again.

I've found avoiding dairy products helps them most

    Hope you got sorted x
