I can't imagine so.. I think If it was a case of they were gonna be a problem being on them for so long the doctor would have weened you off by now ? Do you still have to have check ups with the doctor with you being on for so long? Are they still working for you OK? Reason I ask is I have heard that some people become immune to them and they stop working aswell.

My doctor doesn't take an interest in what I'm taking he just gives me meds, I suppose he leaves it up to me to ask him. I honestly don't know if they've ever worked but might be a lot worse without them. I'm not in the same place I was when I first started them and just take them as routine for over 10 years. Doctor offers no advice and really think he's rubbish tbh. Find it hard to 'enjoy' anything anymore, like music, films etc

What are you taking them for ? Anxiety ? Whether it's true I don't know cause I have only been on them myself for 5 weeks but I have been told that the tablets will build up the serotonin needed (this is what causes anxiety when people are defiecnt of it) to stop you feel anxious once you feel back to yourself I got told that you then start decreasing the dose and try to ween off them

I think you are best judge of that
What are you taking it for ? Depression or anxiety or both
I'm on 50mg for anxiety for 4 weeks now and it seems to work for me by preventing anxiety attacks when I am in pressured situations - job interviews etc
It seems to disconnect my thoughts from driving anxiety which I am glad of but don't want to be on it for long and am using cbt too as. A defence
Others have been on ADs for many years and indicate they could not function without them so I guess you make your choices...

Sounds like you should review your situation with your gp and maybe seek a referral to a mental health service too?
How old are you and are you taking the drugs for depression ?

I'm 39, taking them for depression and although I wouldn't say I was "better" I'm better than I was years ago. My point is if they are numbing my emotions I want them back ha

I guess the purpose of the drugs is to make you feel different
Depends if you consider this to be numbing or not?

I'm taking 100 mg too but my doc said will have to wean off after 2 yrs , I've been on them now for almost 9 months and I'm 42 yrs old .
I believe the happiness and enjoyment is a matter of age too as we enjoy stuff before but now not anymore hopping in 40s age is a change in everything .
I'm taking sertraline due to mild deppression and anixity which I never suffered from before , I'm now a lot better but still there is something in there I'm trying to escape from feeling it . Talk to your doc .

I have been on xanax for a couple of years first starting with 0.5 mg & then 1mg & there really not working for me anymore like they use to.
I went to a ( APN) strictly for Psychiatry becuse I am also depressed & she put me on Zoloft 50mg. This will be my 4th week on them & I don't feel any better. In fact I can't sleep long & feel more agitated. She also reduced my xanax to 0.5 again. How long before I feel a difference with the Zoloft??

With you starting one and stopping another at the same time you're going to feel up and down.

Thanks dodo, doctor told me i should feel the difference in 3weeks.
As I said I really feel worse & will the sleep problems & agitation go away?
I am addicted to the xanax because I must take 2 a day. I hope that goes away once the Zoloft starts to kick in.
How many mg do you take & if more than 50mg when did your doctor increase it?

Don't worry it's going to take some time to kick in and everyone is different in their reaction to the med.
I take 100 mg a day after I started with 50 the doc increased it with in the first couple months.
Good luck dear
