    Hi Jo-ann,

Like you I had sudden, strokelike symptoms. I was at work (documentary producer) and tripped on a cable in the studio when my foot wouldn't lift over it. My whole left side was numb and weak. ER found no stroke and referred me to a neurologist who told me Ihad MS after a very brief exam. I had no symptoms by then (two days later) and got a second opinion and MRI. This onset is called TRANSVERSE MYELITIS, and it is not uncommon. I had

evidence of long-standing silent MS. This was 1988.

I don't know wHich is worse, waiting years to be diagnosed or getting the news in brutally sudden fashion like I did. Hope this helps!
