Hi Valerie, when I first found out I probably have a hiatus hernia with GERD I panicked. But I researched and researched spending hours online every day getting to grips with it to understand it. Knowledge is power. The natural way according to a lot of what I have read is DGL and colostrum, but your research might lead you in a different direction. being overweight makes it far worse so if you are lose weight. Don't automatically believe everything the doctor says just beause he or she is a doctor either - I have been let down with wrong diagnosis and all sorts over the years. Which is why I reserach things myself. Hope you feel better today.

Hi Carmel!  Thanks so much for replying. like you, i panicked when i first learned i had a hiatus hernia. i am particularly frightened of the acid reflux, and the thought of it coming back as i have a phobia of being sick, and have had this since i was a little girl. i didn't sleep too well last night, as i felt a bit bloated, and sometimes, i don't have much of an appetite. what med are you on? please reply and let me know how you cope.  Val.

Hi Val. I was on various proton pump inhibitors and then cimitidine and now for a short time only omeprazole. These medications can give you horrible side effects and stomach aches. I am not sure I have a hh yet, waiting to go to hospital to find out. Am very nervous about going for this as have to go alone. I have read that dgl liquorice and colostrum can help with this, you can get them online. Same as losing weight maybe. A

Hi Carmel!  Thanks for that!  I refused to go for the endiscope, as i am frightened of being sick, and have been like this since i've been a little girl, due to an incident which happened when at boarding school, and have never forgotten.  Good luck with the hospital.  Please keep in touch and let me know how you go.

Hi Valerie, I can understand you not wanting the endoscope thingy because of being sick, it must frighten you a lot.

They give you a choice of with or without sedative don't they. I have put off the endoscope a few times because health goes up and down where it is bad and then ok and when it is ok I think goody goody I am fine now and dont need it. Also if the consultant gives you medication its the same medication you can get off the doctor and its a long journey to go to the consultant so why go so far for things you can get just around the corner. But will be making myself go now . I find it helps a lot to talk to others here with similar things and know they care.

Hi Carmel!  I was so lucky to find this site, and as you say, its so good to be able to chat to people with the same problem and know they care!  I also take omeprezole as well as domperidone and gaviscone advance, but I still get a pain just below my breasts just at the top of my stomach. I was looking up that liquorice, and colostrum and wondered what side effect they have? do you know?  my doc says i don't need to loose weight, so thats not a problem as i've lost quite a bit.  let me know if you know of any adverse side effects.  also do you know of any multi vitomin I could take to give me some energy?  Thanks again Carmel.  Val.

Hi Val, there are lots of multi vitamins you can take. I take the health span one which is for over 50s people and take TWO a day because the omeprezole etc uses up your vitamin b and such and it needs replacing.

The reason we get ill when we take these medicines and get bad side effects is because the medicine depletes the good stuff.

It is also VERY VERY VERY important to make sure you keep your good bacteria in your gut, using probiotics and/or LIVE yoghurt regularly, otherwise you can get very run down and may even get candida or worse. The doctor does not understand about diet etc or prevention, he would wait for you to get very ill and then give you another pill.

Hi Carmel!  Thanks so much for that!  can you explain what probiotics are and what type of things to take?  I tried taking actimel yoggart, also, greek natural yoggart, but it was so bland.  How many omeprozole do you take? i'm on 1 twice daily. taking 1 in the morning, and one in the evening.  I also find sometimes, that i don't have much of an appitite. sometimes, i feel quite nosius and don't feel like eating.

Hi Val. I suggest you google priobiotics and prebiotis , there are lots of articles about them, it is a vast subject. Impossible to explain in one page let alone one paragraph.

Am taking two omeprozole a day, I know what the nausea is like. Most of the yoghurts in the shop are dead, if you get one it has to be LIVE.

Hi Breaker!  Thanks so much for replying.  you said that you are experiencing lots of gas! well as i said, i sometimes have trouble birping, but have plenty of gas at the other end!  i didn't get much sleep lastnight as i felt a bit bloated. when i said to my doc about being tired, she suggested i take a vitimin supliment, but i wouldn't know which one to try. maybe you could let me know your thoughts on that!  Val.

      I was advised to

Take iron supliments but I used berroca before and that did help me out with being tired! I also have trouble sleeping due to pain In my ribs from the pressure as it's like having a constant stitch that turns to an ache I find it so hard to get comfortable I did ask for pain relief and sleeping pills I was only prescribed paracetamol but to be honest they are ineffective was also told I couldn't take sleeping pills as would become addicted to them as my operation is not untill October as I am

      Awaiting a ph test!!
