I have been diagnosed with a hiatus hernia but have had lots of problems with palpitations recently, i also sometimes get a cold shivery feeling some nights as if i am going down with flu, i have suffered from really bad acidity over the last 10 years, i have had three endoscopy's and it was on the last one that i was diagnosed with a hernia, i also get bad chest pain along the sternum and a bad pain where my ribs meet in the middle, it's so depressing, does anybody else suffer from palpitations etc?

i get palpitations. It was in fact a heart specialist that suggested a hiatus hernia. After investigation, he was spot on!

I also have a small sliding hernia. I have had palpitations for the past two weeks. Get very frightened. Doctor said palpitations are from anxiety but I'm not sure I believe him. I do have an anxiety disorder but think the palpitations cause the anxiety. I would love to hear of any progress. Also, I'm sorry you are going through this. All I know is that I'm frightened all the time.

Yes I also suffer with palpitations along with chest pains and terrible lethargy. I had an endoscopy about 2 weeks ago which showed a sliding hiatus hernia which I knew about. I'm trying new medication Nexium which doesn't seem much different to the lansaprazole. I'm getting really fed up now as I feel this is impacting upon my whole life. I wake up with acid in my throat even though I've raised the bed and I've developed a reflux cough now!!

I have a sliding hiatal hernia. I have palpitations and it horrible because I always feel nauseous in the area where the hernia is. I wonder if the hernia causes the palpitations. it is horrible and depressing

i have suffered with palpitations for about 10 years, i've been for so many tests but all came back normal apart from 1 blood test which showed very high troponin levels, that normally indicates a heart attack but i hadn't had a heart attack. I had my gallbladder removed last year and have had constant pain since so my surgeon sent me for tests, one of them was an endoscopy which showed a 5cm hiatus hernia. I am now wondering if this is also the cause of my palpitations? Also, just wondering if anyone can feel a fluttering sensation in their hernia, or am i just weird?

Oddly, I get a flutter feeling really high in the centre of my body. Right below my boobs.
I have a hiatal hernia too.
I also have SVT. ( atrial tachycardia) Whenever I have an episode where my resting heart rate is about 60 bpm, I feel this flutter, off off my heart rate goes. Then within a beat it is going 140 bpm.
I have always thought these episodes are triggered my my hernia and vagas nerve

I've suffered from acid reflux for years, been on ranitidine and lansoprazole for a long time - although ranitidine stopped due to the safety concerns a while back. I've also struggled with palpitations for some years which I've had a holter monitor for now twice and they've just reported PVCs but no follow up needed. Recently I've started the out of breath/air hunger thing which seems to be after i've eaten and somewhat dependent on position.
I have problems with iron absorption and have occasional infusions - my doc said it's a lot to do with taking PPIs which stop the absorption and that I need to get to the bottom of why I have GERD so I can hopefully stop the PPIs. He said he'd bet money on me having a hiatus hernia. My GP said he would refer me to a gastro consultant a few weeks ago but am still waiting for an appointment.
The past couple of weeks my symptoms have gone through the roof. I constantly feel full, if I try eating something it just balls up in my throat for hours and I constantly regurgitate food and acid for hours, I'm waking up in the night choking, my throat is irritated and making me cough ... and the palpitations! During or after I've eaten the ectopic beats start, they can go on for a good while and really freak me out, they also seem to be exacerbated by position/movement.
Really hope i get my appointment through soon. The weight loss is a bonus though!

iI just wanted to say that I have reflux and am due to have surgery. I have had shortness of breath - difficulty getting a deep breath , being worse following eating and when stomach starts to be empty. It has taken a while for this to be recognised as a symptom of reflux. I was told it was anxiety. So I was reluctant to mention the palpitations which I occasionally experienced. Since I did something strenuous a few weeks ago I have been suffering palpitations following eating which is particularly annoying. Although it doesn't make my heart go faster, if I do get up and do anything it obviously goes faster and I just want to sit down, due to the pounding. I have been seen by a cardiologist and I queried about 'cardiogastric syndrome' He actually acknowledged that this is a possibility in my case & even mentioned it on the letter to the GP . I googled it and it is definitely a symptom of bloated stomach which irritates the heart. This should be more recognised as a possibility following cardiac investigations, rather than putting down to anxiety.

Omg! i cannot believe that other people have this. i have been battling heart palpitations for a while now and have been trying to figure out why and had soooo many tests! my hubby kept on asking if it was due to my hernia and i was like no way. no doctor said it was. but reading all this makes me believe it truly is cause. i tend to get these episodes of really bad palpitations and constant which then triggers my anxiety levels. it is really bad! cardiologist keeps saying that my heart produces extra beats and thats just electrics and have to live with it. have you had any treatment? any tips?

I have a large hiatal hernia and was diagnosed with it at age 50. I have been takigng ppi's for many years to keep pain from acid reflux at bay. But the reflux is still there because of the hernia. I am 74 now and told primary Dr. about problems with palpitations. He just shrugs it off and I may have to change Dr. It is so frustating to have a large hiatal hernia. I hope you get some relief
