Help

Has anyone out there with a Hiatus Hernia experienced what feels like heartburn in your back and left arm. I have been diagnosedwith a Hiatus Hernia and take 30mg of Lansoprazoleonce a day and 10 of Motilium 3 times a day. But it doesn't seem to help the pain I have. I have had pain every single day for the past 2years and swapped between meds i.e omeprazole etc but nothing seems to work. I lot of the symptoms on research only states chest but I get it bad in my upper back around that knot thing in your kneck then it goes down my arm. Just wondered if anyone else has had this. Before I was diagnosed I thought I was dying I had seen every consultant you can imagine from heart, back brain to stomach. The docs seem to think now I know what it is I should feel less anxitey, well I don't as still feel really bad pain every day and meds not working.

Wow just reading this now as diagnosed with Hiatus Hernia.  Spent 5 days in hospital in October last year having all sorts of tests on heart to work out what was causing my excruiating chest and arm pain.  Had an endoscopy and they didn't pick it up then.  Had another yesterday and well there you a positive result.  Have to start medication so here's hoping it works and do not have to have op.

That's great you got somewhere, I flared up a week ago, woke up in pain slowly got worse over week. Last night Zantac helped slightly, up and down all day. Been on peppermint tea a few times today, got better but dinner made it worse again, wind both ends again with shoulder and L forearm pain rolleyes

Had a few stretches as the whole spine/shoulder pain from it being tense helped a bit - then I had dinner and back to square one! I think processed meat (fat content ?) causes it - meatballs! Late brunch at 4pm was fries and a small steak and I was fine. Meatballs no sauce - major flare again.

Water, water and more water, think Zantac will be soon too.

Same. I was admitted into the hospital for same exact symptoms. Bad chest and left arm pain. They did a bunch of cardio work up on me and nothing. All they found so far is a hitius hernia in a chest ct scan. I'm only 19 I'm very slim drs said I'm to young and healthy to have heart problems. Still hard to believe with all these symptoms and heart palpitations. Anyone help please

Hi Alex.  Same symptoms as me.  I would be rolling around on the bed balling my eyes out for at least 3 mins.  The pain would go and I was fine after that.  I too had all tests for heart including an angiogram which is 100% correct.  Nothing wrong there.  It wasn't until my 2nd endoscopy that they found the hernia.  Once I went onto Nexus and Motilium I was fine.  Not even an inkling of a pain.  Go and see your DR and have him medicate you.  Good luck.

Hope your flare ups shorten after time.  My medication I am on seems to be working.  No pain now for over 2 weeks.  Winning.

That's great Colleen :D - the problem with me is even omeprazole stops my body digesting food and the gas gets worse! So Dr does not want to try others as very sensitive digestive system. My intestines just don't move without more food going in either, and laxatives daily can cause further problems so it's a a bit of a nightmare.

Peppermint tea, Zantac and Senekot as needed, was in a bit of pain this morning in my L shoulder, spine and neck. I felt the left forearm pain slightly getting into bed, but Zantac at night is a last resort due due to stomach fermentation and more gas.

Zantac, 2 coffee and shoulder massage has released a lot of gas, pain & tension but it is till there so Senekot next I think as I can still feel pain will be unbearable when I eat later.

I think the Men's Health "Joint Endurance" supplements are not helping my digestive so will take a few days off of it. Vitamin B tablets and Calcium may not be helping either but due to food allergies Dr wants me to take them...the amount of crap in them is terrible though and I think my disgestive can't handle them even though my muscle and bones seems better taking them, Sod's law!

I'm starving but scared to eat as major pain may come back and I've just got rid of the worst of it rolleyes

Zantac Zantac Zantac...getting somewhere, pain subsiding smile

Anyone with the gas pain also have asthma ? I assume the pain and therefor inflammation causes histimines to be released ? Certainly my asthma is worse when the pain is here, be interesting to know if anyone else suffers the co-morbidity of pain and feeling short of breath asthma flare ups.

I've been having abdomen back left arm pain chest pain I've seen cardiologist neurologist and all they've found so far is a hitial hernia. It's so hard to believe its a hernia causing my pain. I always think that I'm having heart problems. Especially because my chest and left arm pain is so bad. But drs have cleared me from my heart they say I've been seen by many drs including cardiologist and that I'm to young and healthy for heart problems 😕😕

I went to the ER on Wednesday for chest and back pain in my shoulder blade. After a CT scan, MRI, and a heart cath I was sent home still in pain with no diagnosis but told to follow up with my family doctor. They have no idea what is causing my pain. My heart is fine and my scans showed nothing wrong except the ct scan showed a small problem in my t12 then it didn't show up on the mri. This is NOT gas! I have been chewing on tums for weeks! Then Prilosec and now nexium! I don't have indigestion. It is a sharp pain in my shoulder blade that comes through my left breast. It is horrible! Anyone know any reason for this?

I would have an endoscopy to check for a hiatus hernia. I had exact same issues as you. I even had an angiogram done which is a 100% result. Showed no heart blockage. Had another endoscopy which showed the hernia.  The first endoscopy in hospital didn’t pick it up. Was put on Nexium and Motilium which fixed the problem. Never had the pain again.

Definitely sounds like the hernia with arm and chest region pain. Originally they said they could see a possible fracture at T4. But appears it may have been the hernia they could see. Have a endoscopy.
