Hip Dislocation 8 weeks post op

My left hip replacement recovery was going pretty well until at 8 weeks it dislocated and had to be corrected under general
Anaesthetic. It was an extremely traumatic experience which has left me with sciatica and a complete loss of confidence. I am now wearing a brace for 6 weeks and having as much physio as I can without aggravating the sciatica. We have cancelled our planned holiday and I can't imagine when I might be fit to fly again...Weeks or months seem to be risky... More like a year!
Any one had a similar experience?!

My commiserations, that's a rubbish thing. I know how the cancelling your holiday thing feels - I had to cancel my holiday to Mexico this year; and for other reasons, it looks like you that I won't be able to fly next year as well as I need surgery on my ankle. It's like the whole point of working through everything is to have that nice holiday and it's all snatched away.
?Wishing you a speedy recovery...

Oh my goodness. You have suffered much. Dislocation is very pai nful and scarey.Ifeel sad you have experienced it.
Hopefully the surgeons have corrected the reason for the Dislocation.
A lady from exercise class was 4yrs. Post op.and dislocated her hip by sitting on a low toilet seat.
I'm at 2 an half yrs post op. I took a16 day tour to Ireland, Scotland and London. Involed buses, planes, trains, castle winding stairs, and uneven grounds.
I did this with no problems at all.I loved this trip. Very happy i went there. The counties are beautiful and breathtaking.
You will be able to travel later and have it to look forward too. Best of luck and healing too you

Good idea. I had to cancel three weeks touring Mexico (my friends first time there but not mine, so it could have been worse). So I started planning a month touring central America for next year. Which now looks blown out of the water. So I am planning the tour of central America plus a tour of Iran for the year after. I have a tendency to have bank account piggy banks - I have a separate account for savings, one for travel etc.,. And my travel one is looking so healthy that I will definitely be able to afford both, and maybe even a third one. I'm wondering about a European river cruise next year because I could do that without flying, so it would not impact on surgery.

I hope you don't mind me asking but how did you dislocate it?

Hi Lindy
Oh my goodness how absolutely dreadful. I am nine weeks post op; second op this year and I'm so terrified of dislocation. However, as I'm feeling more confident, I am tending to forget the twelve week restriction rule . This morning my daughter brought her brand new puppy to see me and without thinking,I bent to pick her up! Immediately had a pull in my thigh and inner groin pain which I can tell, I inflamed.
Would you mind please , explaining what you did, if anything, to dislocate and also the symptoms?
Reading on there are many people that this has happened to; it's so scary.
I truly wish you well.
Maureen xx

Unfortunately yes I have as well. I had 2 dislocations on the right side following THR (right side) I hate to be the barrier of bad news but you will likely need a revision surgery to correct the problem. I was also 8 weeks out when it dislocated the first time and it happened really really easy the 2nd time... I was sleeping! So, be really careful because after it comes out the first time you are highly likely to dislocate a second time. The X-rays I had in the beginning showed the hip was fine, and the ortho said that I just needed to heal some more. Well after the second time I knew something wasn't right and it wasn't! My hip was put in at a 0 degree antiversion (per the second opinion) Its fixed and now I'm 8 years out and doing pretty good, and recovering (4 weeks out) from left total hip replacement. Pray, trust in the lord and maybe get a second opinion.. no one knows the terror you feel following a dislocated hip. I'm so paranoid about this one coming out I'm almost afraid to move lol! And again, no one understands why I'm so fearful of that but me. Good luck and hope you find that you are maybe slower to heal rather than you having to go through yet another procedure to fix your hip!

From experience with a uncomplicated THP my holiday four months post op was a complete waste of money, I was too scared to move and to relax, I fell over on an uneven surface and was so stressed out being overseas and in the middle east - where I have no experience of the hospitals there. My advice is to wait until you are feeling COMPLETELY confident, and trial run a few short breaks first....I wish I had waited to be honest - and I would have enjoyed it more. Spend the money on cheering yourself up at home if I were you.
WIshing you the very best lovely - we are all here to get you through, and esp those with experience will really be able to help x
