is there anyone else due for hip surgery anytime soon? Just like feedback on how you're feeling.... it's a scary venture and not sure whether to be excited or scared !

I was absolutely petrified because I'm afraid of any type of anaesthetic or sedation and I was terrified at the prospect of having no feeling in my legs because of the spinal injection.. But it was amazing! I was sedated before the spinal injection so have no recollection of it. And I didn't even really notice having no feeling in my legs for those few hours after surgery. Plus, no sickness or pain immediately after the op so you have time to relax and recuperate. And, these days, pain management is a huge part of recovery so don't be afraid to tell the nursing staff if you're in pain.

Also, when you get home, don't be afraid to take your prescribed meds. Pain is counter-productive to recovery. If we can manage our pain we will recover much quicker. So don't be a hero, trying to brave it out. Take what you need to feel comfortable so that you can do what it takes to recover as quickly as possible.

    Good luck!

I'm terrified and I don't even have my date yet. Just my pre op assessment date on 18th July. Does that mean my op date will be within 6 weeks? Not knowing a date is making my anxiety worse. There's so much I want reassuring about, have other people found the pre op assessment useful? I was too worried to read posts on this forum at first as I didn't want to her bad things. But I've followed a few posts now, about preparing for post op and recovery as I need positive feedback that I will be "normal" again and others patients advice can be inspiring.

Hi Rowena my own experience is the op will be imminent, because they do blood tests to ensure you're well enough for the op so I don't think it will be too far away. They tell you everything at the pre op and also if you have questions . It will be one hurdle less for you smile

      all the best Rowena x

Hi Rowena. First of all try not to worry, I had my hip joint replacement 4 weeks ago and I had the spinal injection and some sedatives. I had expressed some concerns about being awake and hearing what was being done and the annethsatist must have taken heed because I fell asleep and woke up pain free as they were wheeling me back to the ward. Carry on with your pre operation exercises and do as your phisio tells you and all will be fine.

      Hi rowena,

You cannot have a date for op until the pre op. In the pre op you will have an ECG, urine and blood tested basically an MOT. The pre op nurse will then ask you loads of questions regarding any illnesses you may have, medication you are on etc., it is all to find out your state of health so they can assess your risk for op.
