Hip pain before surgery

Hi everyone. I'm almost 4 weeks post op from a right THR and started physical therapy a week ago. In talking to the therapist about my pain before surgery, which I still have, I was surprised to hear that most patients have pain in the groin area instead of the upper buttocks, like me. I've had 2 spinal fusions and it was my spine doctor that mentioned the arthritis in my hip after my 2nd surgery when I still had so much pain that they couldn't answer for.

Are there any others that have the pain in their lower back/upper buttock area? Or did you have the groin pain? I'm kind of wondering if there's a difference in where the pain radiates from and if that affects healing.

Thanks!

Hello. I'm about 4 weeks post-op TRHR (anterior). I had right groin pain nearly two years. I thought my groin pain came from playing volleyball or Zumba and thought it would get better. As my groin pain got worse, I had pain in my right groin, upper thigh, buttocks and low back. Standing up from a sitting position or getting out of the car was the worse! My X-rays/MRI confirmed my groin pain was due to hip degeneration (arthritis). So far I'm recovering well due to home exercises, ice/meds as needed and patience!

Yes I am 11 weeks post op and i've had pain in all three places.  But prior to surgery it took a long time to figure out that my back pain was actually stemming from my hip   At 4 weeks post op I still had a lot of pain.  I really didn't start to feel like I was making significant progress until about 9 weeks.  Give it more time.  I think its all normal.
