i do have the same problems after my TKR my hips started giving me problems and after a MRI my doctor said my hips are bad and rubbing bone on bone and at risk of collapsing and I never thought it was that bad. I am limping as well and can't lay on my hips at night .I had several steroid shots in my hips which does wonders but only for a couple of weeks , I am active and healthy and it sucks but you better address it now then later, it won't go away

    Try these...

    Other Pain After a TKR

    Sciatica

I had my TKR at 68...four + years ago. It's a very tough recovery that usually takes a full year. Other ancillary pain is very common, especially sciatica. I now have 5-pounds of metal in my body with the knee, one hip and five spine ops...three fusions...that have me fused from T-12 to S-1...the whole lumbar spine. Even after all that, I still have to rate the knee as the hardest recovery I ever had to do. It's all about expectations (get rid of them) vs. reality (embrace the horror).

And yes, all mine came from playing hockey for 45+ years. I would not be surprised if you had more ops in your future. The evolution of human spines and joints have not kept up with medical science nor our capability to live a lot longer than our predecessors on this planet. The older you get, the more that can go wrong. Having played brutal sports in our younger days just exacerbates the problem.

Stay healthy, eat well, exercise. There's very little you can do to forestall the disintegration of your remaining joints and spinal disks as you continue with age. The good news is that there's a variety of procedures that can get you back on your feet and continue a fairly normal life. Just don't expect a free pass at the airport. I light up the scanner like a Christmas tree!!!!

i had a similar problem after my TkRs.My gait was off. i was favouring my leg when i walked. It was a little like learning to walk all over again. I had to make sure that i did heal toe and not shuffle along. It did get better. Make sure that your shoes support your feet correctly. For me Birkenstock was the best support.

I am one month into a THR and it has definitely affected my hip on the same side. It is sore and I cant lie on that side in bed. I did wonder if I had been doing the exercises too much but am now thinking that it is my body adjusting to the new knee which was badly worn. Am hoping that things will eventually settle down but it is very hard going and at this moment in time i a wishing I hadnt had it done!
