    Hi Mandy

Well you will see from the replies on here we all are different.

I had both hips done in August and was in hospital for 7 days, and home to my husband.   The first few days home is scary, you move from bed to chair alot trying to find somewhere comfy.   You will sleep on and off during the first few days home and your concentration is like zero.

I did not get given a grabber, or toilet seat so husband had gone out before I returned home and got one.   I also have a stool for the shower.

My scars are about 6 inches and found wearing anything tight on them still causes discomfort.

I started to drive around 4 weeks as have an automatic car and by that time found it was fine.   First time was just around an empty car park then short local journeys.

I have only just started to try sleeping on my side and can last about 30 mins on each side before I am back sleeping on my back.

I enjoy nice walks, not to long and have the advantage of a nice flat prom and the sea breeze.

Good luck best thing I ever did although at time thought it wasn,t.

Come back on here and ask away as this has been one of my biggest comforts on the journey through the good and bad days.

Hi Mandy, I had thr  9 weeks ago. Am 80 years old so am really pleased with how things have gone. My 2 daughters stayed with me my first night home, but have stayed in my. Own home since. One  daughter lives 2 miles away and calls in every day to check am ok and to go anything that is "out of bounds". Now go into my nearest town by bus, which is 3 miles away

And do small jobs around the house.  Am careful that I do neighing strenuous. Take a walking stick when I go out. Brilliant surgeon, scar is on,y about 5 inches and can hardly see it. Had 22 staples and op was by spinal injection and sedation. Sleeping on back was worse part as I like to sleep on my side, but got the OK after 6 weeks. Loss of appetite was another thing, plus constipation, but they can give you something for that. Appetite is now returning and finally have stopped losing weight and slowly putting g a bit back on. Am sure you will ge on fine, was expecting lot of pain after, but really not much at all, more like muscle ache. Good luck with the op, let's know how you get on.

The plus on losing weight is you can buy all those things with lots of calories so you can put some weight back on. Trouble is it's just not the same when you dont really fancy it. Never thought they wiuld come a time when I weighed myself and hoped I was putting it on. Take that stick when you go out, it's  like a magic wand, cars let you cross the road, seats get offered to you , so you see, there are some good things in store. Haha

Ha ha Bet you are a star ...where can I get the stick from and can I get a pretty colour

      Hi Mandy,

I wish you all the best. My hip replacement was v straight forward, much better than I expected! Sleeping is a complete nuisance, think everyone feels the same! You're advised to sleep on your back for 6 weeks, and you do sort of get used to it.... Your grabber will be your best friend. I live in London, I wasn't supplied with one. I was given all the other stuff like loo seats, sofa and bed raised up etc. The hardest things to manage are the compression socks. I hope it all goes well.

Ps, my surgeon was rather good looking too, and he had a v steady hand! My scar is small, about 8cm.

      Hi Judith ...

lack of sleep won't be a problem as I am up most nights in pain anyway, so same same there lol

All these good looking surgeons hey , how lucky are we ..

cant wait to see what size my scar is ..I shall, of course measure it and let you all know lol
