Hi all,

Just thoughts I'd ask what waiting time lists are for hip replacement operations in UK.

What post op follow up did you have? In Dorchester, 6 weeks saw physio but that was all..next check up 12 months ...  However, as something else went wrong..not with hip tho', just seen consultant again.  Problem with psoas and iliopsoas, but  hope cortisone injections will finally sort that out. I do have my own weekly physio tho for deep massage ....

    Hi Paula,

In England, there is still a 18 week waiting time rule for the NHS . This is a legal requirement and starts from the time the hospital receives the referral letter and goes through to the first trreatment. Not sure what the rules are in Wales though.

I'm in Cornwall, I first saw the consultant on April 23rd last year, asked to be put on the waiting list for a revision, and that was done on 14th October. That's about 25 weeks but there was some delay because I had to have dental treatment, and then it was postponed because of lack of beds.

A year is an awful long time to wait if you are in pain and unable to get about.

I think it depends what area, I'm on the waiting list for a revision, have been since early September. I was told  approx 3 months but I do realise this time of year it does get busier. My first replacement I waited only 10wks. Same area same consultant.

If I was you I would ring the secretary just to check.

I know people who waited that long but fortunately I have BUPA  cover and chose my date with no waiting time....knew all that money I spend on it would be worth it one day!!!   Couldn't have had better treatment!

Hello Paula,  Like Sylvia I also live in Dorset and waiting time was 18 weeks .. but because of other committments - overseas weddings, work etc. I had, the later date suited me fine.

    Hi Paula

I am in Cornwall and have just been referred to the waiting list, I've been told 6 months, although when I check on the NHS web site it says its only a 13 week waiting list at the hospital I've been referred to.

If you visit http://www.nhs.uk you can find you treatment and hospital and it will tell you.

    Good luck!

I live in Cheshire. I requested the referral mid August 2014, saw the specialist in September and he basically let me pick my date. I chose December 9 as it fitted in with my husband being able to take time off work to look after me. I think I was very fortunate!

Hi Paula, I wrote a post but it's awaiting approval because I put a link to the NHS web site.  If you go on their website you can put in your procedure and the hospital you are booked in to and then it will tell you the waiting times, hope this helps, Paula x
