How am I doing.........????

hi there, I've just had 2 new knees on dec 3rd and came out of hospital 6 days later. Both my knees are still swollen and still quite numb over the old knee cap area and on the sides, the swelling is hindering my flexing/ bending exercises and I just don't know how I should be doing, because a double knee replacement is a lot rarer than the normal single procedure. I am going between slight euphoria and periods of being quite down cos' I just don't have anyone or anything to compare myself against. How long does the swelling, numbness last is the main concern for me at this point. If anyone is able to provide some support or advice I would be very grateful. I am a 52 year old male. Thank you in advance.

Lots of bending and stretching the knee with no pain in the water.
Even managed a little swim.
Can't wait to go back in two days.
Shattered now though lol

Was the water heated?
Our hydrotherapy pool is closed for refurbishment until Feb.
I do find our spa lovely though.
Well done

The pool was deep enough to swim in and heated like a bath. So lovely to move around without pain.
The physio therapist got in the water with us and went through a range of movements tailored to suit us individually. Some were great fun. Almost an hour of continuous movement! I didn't want to get out!
I get 10 free sessions and then can continue afterwards for a small fee if i like /need to!
It's all part of the free health service here in oz

Healing nicely and no real pain but still can't straighten it and so i can't walk properly!
I can't stand anything on my leg either and have to sleep with it above the covers

I had my second hydrotherapy session today and feeling a bit happier. Not so stiff this time and i think it's a bit straighter!
I keep rubbing Lioton gel on the knee and that seems to help too -cools it down a bit
Hoping for a better night tonight. I was reading from 2-4.30 am because i couldn't get comfy.
Do you get those awful muscle spasms at night? Like jumpy legs but worse?

I just went Christmas shopping with my daughter. I drove far longer than I did last week and almost dragged myself into the house. I did it to the max, hope I don't pay for it later.
It has been a scorcher here today. I had a spa this morning and did exercises, sort of sideways cycling under the water for a while, but it's nice to let the jets massage my leg.
I am finding it so hard to get comfy in bed too. I don't get jumpy legs but I do get this tightening that seems to get tighter.
I keep rubbing the Lioton on too, it takes the pain away for a little while too. I am glad I was watching The Bold and the Beautiful on the bike without the remote so I couldn't fast forward the ads, that's how I saw it.
I have a lot of trouble first thing in the morning, my knee is so stiff I can hardly walk up the stairs.
My old great darn has arthritis in his back legs, we walk up side by side, he lets me hold on to him.

yes, I am happy with the way it's going now. Yesterday when my daughter needed to go to another shopping centre further up the freeway, I was a bit scared as I hadn't driven that far or in heavy traffic since the op. But it was fine, and I managed to keep up with her. I pushed the trolley though, that helps. I went out at 2 and got back at 6. Then I took her out again to the local shops, she had forgotten cat food!
Today my knee is stiff and a little tired, but it's fine, I'm happy.
My next physio is 9th Jan, I'm going to ask about hydrotherapy.

Why did I think I needed a purple wig? Blame it on the painkillers!
Getting better every day!

All ok. Just need to massage the scar a bit.
5-110 degree range of movement so just need to work on straightening mainly
I mentioned how emotional we get sometimes. He had no idea and wrote notes to mention it in future so patients don't worry.
Nice guy. - give me a photo of my new knee lol

Before people found this site and found that we all are on emotional roller coaster, TKRs must have just put up with it alone, oh, that's so sad, I think I'm going to cry lol

The time zones are a pain. Often i wanted to get some sympathy from my daughters in the UK and realise they'd be sleeping!
So nice to have you ladies (and any gentlemen) to share/compare with x

Great fun (i met spiderman) but I'm shattered today and my knee is very stiff and sore.
