How am I doing.........????

hi there, I've just had 2 new knees on dec 3rd and came out of hospital 6 days later. Both my knees are still swollen and still quite numb over the old knee cap area and on the sides, the swelling is hindering my flexing/ bending exercises and I just don't know how I should be doing, because a double knee replacement is a lot rarer than the normal single procedure. I am going between slight euphoria and periods of being quite down cos' I just don't have anyone or anything to compare myself against. How long does the swelling, numbness last is the main concern for me at this point. If anyone is able to provide some support or advice I would be very grateful. I am a 52 year old male. Thank you in advance.

I'm 52 year old female and am 8weeks after tkr.

I have no idea what it must b like to have 2 knees replaced at the same time, as 1 was hellish at times.

I hv a lot of numbness down outside of my knee and it's quite sensitive. I also hv burning pain on the inside.

I need my other knee replaced and think the pain in it when getting up and walking is affecting my mobility.

Good luck and I really admire you for having double tkr  and can only imagine the difficulties you must have

I am exactly the same as you with the pain and needing the other knee done. Don't know whether I could go through this again. I had the same burning pain before the op so it has never gone. My knee keeps giving way and I am 5 weeks post op.

Just a wee update, I'm now 5 weeks post op after my double TKR- I've done away with my crutches and sticks, I have 115 flex on right knee and 120 flex in my left. I had 2 visits to my physio and he's now said there is no need to go back - just follow the exercise regime already given at home. I can get up and down stairs (slowly😃) and go for walks outside for about 40 mins at a time. I do still get tired, but I'm sure this will improve over time, I still get sensitivity around the wound site (especially at night), so my surgeon suggested a drug called Pregabalin-this suppresses the the feelings in the nerve endings around the areas that were cut- and it has made a difference!!! I'm still about 8 weeks minimum from going back to work- but I'm just carrying on with the exercises. I hope this helps some people on their road to recovery.

Well done crispin, you are doing really well. I have taken pregabalin - Lyrica since my op and have noticed how good it is.

Keep up with your positive thinking, it gets you through this.
