Sounds like Lymphoedema which is what I have. Sadly, there's not alot of Dr's that know alot about it or how to treat it. Has he mentioned this possibility? Ladyjack51

They DO make compression stockings with the feet and toes in them...it's important that you get some and take the water pill but potassium as well so your muscles don't cramp up. You are blessed that you can still get a stocking on...my leg is too big. You didn't mention lymphoedema and that is my issue. If you had that then yes it would be for life. But you seem to already know that your's is caused by a pain medication, which I have never heard of that before, but anyway....so why don't you just change medications??? Clearly this one is irritating your lymphatic system so why doesn't he change it?? A vascular surgeon is only gonna help you if this is a poor circulation issue-veinous insufficiency problem with your veins...not something induced by pain meds. Just FYI before you waste your money. If your Dr doesn't know much about edema, he needs to refer you to a specialist. All this sounds like it's more than a pain med, but I'm just going by what you say. No thanks needed sweetie...to share and discuss and vent is why we come here. Let me know!!! Ladyjack51

OK, Sounds like you've had some of the tests I had but I dad even more and I'm telling you again it sounds like lymphedema. And again you haven't mentioned it...I'm extremely surprised your Dr would say you have veinous leakage (????) but not realize it's probably lymphedema...especially if you are heavy. The extra weight on the lymph glands in your groin area can get closed off and so the trash fluid in your body pools in your legs. Please bring it up to him....you need to at least be seen by a lymphoedema therapist...and there aren't many but the hospital's usually have at least one person who does it and your Dr should know how to refer you to them. Let me know... ladyjack51

My name is Gina...thanks for asking. I have some medical background plus I have poor veinous insuffiency myself, which turned into lymphoedema probably bc I also am heavy and worked at a desk for years which helped to close off those major lymph glands in the groin. You really need to bring this up to your Dr, the lymphedema, so you can be treated accordingly. If you dont...your leg will get bigger and that fluid can't go anywhere so it begins to leak thru the skin and makes sores and then you have cellulitis which can become a big wound that has to be treated first. It's really an awful thing. You have to stay in those stockings. Let me know sweetie! Gina

I'm really glad the stockings are helping. They don't seem to make any large enough for my leg...so I'm supposed to go to lymphoedema treatment where they literally rub the fluid up out of my leg every day until it gets small enough to get stockings on. Thats IF I can get there everyday....not easy for me to do.
No, I had to stop working 4 years ago bc of my leg. I have my second disability hearing this coming week so pray that they approve me this time! I need all the prayer I can get!
And YES.....sitting all day does make your swelling worse...whether it's poor circulation, or lymphedema, or your heart, or whatever it is...you potentially cutting off the circulation on the back of your legs when sitting unless you get a foot rest to raise your legs a bit under the desk. However, I found those didn't work for me after awhile bc it's the lymph glands in the groin area that are getting closed off by my belly when sitting. I didn't realize that at the time....but it does. Keep me posted Patty...where do you live?

answer to my mother''s onslaught of fat feet, ankles .legs She is 97 and
has always had legs like a Greyhound. She recently moved into a care
home .where sitting a lot appears to be obligatory.. Her swellings came
and I thought it was a medication that a doctor .in his wisdom .decided that she ought to take. which I knew she didn't, consequently the
swelling started .Even though she is built like a racing snake ,she
does have a large stomach, probably the food sh e now has to eat.
Having read your idea, I will put it forward to the doctor ,

Alot has happened since I last posted on here but I ran across this between you and I and wanted to ask what you found out with your mom? Yes...sitting with the pressure of a big belly laying on the top of the thighs and groin is not a good thing. That is what cut off my lymphatic system and poor veinous insuffiency in that leg too. Let me know....
