How did you injure your ankle and what's your age?

I've been reading posts for a good while now and have found everyone to be so kind, caring, compassionate and helpful.  People are really friendly here!

I thought it might be interesting to just give a short sentence or two, on how we got hurt and if you want to, include your age.

I got hurt at a Prince Tribute Skate (roller skating) on May 10th.  I had a Closed bimalleolar Fracture of left ankle.   I'm 51.   biggrin

    Hi Beth,

Thanks for starting this discussion, it really is encouraging to know that we are not alone.

I've fractured my fibula (Weber B type apparently) 7 weeks ago. After six cast changes I'm now on a brace for 2 weeks. Still experiencing lots of pain and swelling, but doing my best to persevere. I can also relate to external stress factors such as not being able to work, 2nd year PhD far from home/family is definitely not an ideal time to have this type of injury smile

Ps. I'm 30 and fell from my stairs at home.

Hi Claudine, I agree.  It really is encouraging and it has helped me too, to know that we aren't alone.  There are many people in this "boat" with us.  :-)

2nd year PhD and being far from home, must be difficult.  You sound like a really strong person and for someone going for their PhD, I know you are strong!

It's so easy to lose our footing, isn't it!  I hate you feel from the stairs, but sometimes, I think I could fall over my own two feet!  I wish you the best of luck!  :-)

    Hi Beth,

I injured my ankle playing soccer. I managed to end up with my foot turned a tree an ankle that left my sole facing outwards and my inner left ankle touching the ground! After numerous visits to the hospital they finally figured out I'd torn my deltoid ligaments and broken my talus.

I was in a cast for 6 weeks NWB then put into a boot NWB for another's 6 weeks then weight bearing for 4 with the aid of crutches.

At this point I paid privately rather than wait 18 months using crutches. I had the op to reconstruct an ankle and was 6 more weeks in a cast NWB then another 4 WB using crutches. After over 1 year ignoring physio I'm finally able to jog!

I hope everyone eventually gets back to some level of normality!

Good grief!  I'm glad you are finally able to jog.  Sounds like you went through a lot, Laura.  As for me, I still limp (surgery was May 13th) and I can't even remotely walk fast, let alone jog - but I can walk.  LOL  I'm glad you are impoving and I too, hope everyone gets back to some type of normality.  :-)

My goodness- that is some story!  I am glad to see a happy ending for sure.  That is a lot of time NWB!  And now jogging- you are amazing.

Slowly but surely it gets there! I wasn't beginning to think I'd never be able to jog again but with the stretches and actions my physio gave me it eventually started to get easier. We ankle busters must stay strong! LOL!

Hi everyone. I'm brand new to this board. I'm 44 and I have a left ankle trimaleolar fracture. I'm (hopefully) nine days away from having my cast off. It will have been six weeks and one day since my surgery. I slipped on a wet driveway at 7am one morning.

I'm very excited that soon I will be weight bearing again. I've now broken all four limbs so now that I've completed the cycle I think I'd like to stop. I certainly left the biggest one till last though!
