    Hi Celticcarma!

I know exactly how you feel. I've had OA of most of my joints for the past 15 years (I'm 55). I won't lie and tell you it gets better because it won't. I've been on pain meds for the past couple of years  which only took the edge off my pain. It didn't relieve it.

So now I've come to the decision that it's time to get a new hip!

I'm scared to death but I'm tired of having no quality of life.

I hope you see your doctor soon and get the relief you need.

Hello Miele, thanks for the kind words and for sharing where

you are on the path. I, too have had OA for some time. I take

morphine and antiinflammatories for the pain. But when my hip started in about 6 months ago, it really changed my quality of life. I am mostly house bound and since we don't have a

car, it's public transportation to go anywhere, which wears me out.

Have you managed to get a doctor appointment yetand get the process going? I hope you are able to get help with your pain and mobility. Keep me posted. See my updatesmile

    Hello

I'm sorry you are in so much pain all you can do really is rest up and keep on top of your medication there is nothing else you can do flower I know it's difficult I have been there its most unpleasant but be happy in the knowledge that once you have your operation you will be released from that pain

    keep your chin up

    best wishes

Hello Denise, thank you for the encouraging words. I definitely keep on top of my pain meds, although my surgeon wants

me to cut back on them leading up to surgery. I am scared, but I know God has me in his hands and once I am on the other side, things will be so much better.

God bless you and stay in touchsmile

Hi celticarma I was the same and ended up in a wheelchair a month before surgery when I had to stop working as I couldn't get there or do anything when I did. Even standing was very painful. I was on co-codomol 8 or day and antiinflammatories twice a day. I was told there was no stronger painkillers I could have. I rang consultants secretary and asked if there were any cancellations, could I be considered which she did and I got one which was then cancelled due to black alert and so was next op, but finally referred to private hospital under NHS due to fact my hips were so bad. I'm now 5 weeks post op of thr on right hip and its amazing this week I can walk around and do light housework. I still have problems with my left hip which I'm hoping my surgeon will put me on the list for replacement soon when I see him next Thursday. It seems desolate when at the stage you are in but amazing to look back on when you find you can walk and move around again. Hold in there and rest assured in a couple of months you'll be able to get about again.

Your words spoke to me today Christine. I too have bi-lateral OA in both hips. It put me in a wheel chair for up to a year until recently.

Before my surgeon would replace my hips i had to lose 100 lbs. and be up and moving.

The pain was extreme and i had to sit to cook, shower and really put me on the sidelines. I decided to ave weight loss surgery 01-08-14.

Since then i lost 100 + lbs. and have been out of my wheel chair now for 7 months, each month geting gradually stronger walking with cane.

I havn't been able to walk up right completly and i always have some level of pain.

I went to see my surgeon to let him know i did as he asked and was ready for surgery. He was so happy i did what he asked and then scheduled me for hip surgery March 10th.

Reading your post reassured me that i am making the right decision and to disregard any negative thoughts that try to sneak in.

I look forward to walking "normal" again, without pain. Especially after my second hip replacement later this year.

Wishing you much happiness with your new hips.

      Sincerely, Roguewarrior

Hi roguewarrier thank you, i am definitely progressing though only got 1 hip done so far, next should be in 4-5 mths time.

You are definitely making the right decision to have the op, you have gone through so much which is amazing and I wish you all the best for your op soon. After all you've been through, the op is no problem anyway but the rest be easy.

I'm sorry to hear of your discomfort. I can totally relate celtic.

If you have 2 lb hand weights you can exercise sitting in a chair or in bed. also do feet pumps as your laying on your bed. This will keep your muscles stronger and blood flowing well. You will be doing these post op as well.

There really isn't much more you can do except follow a healthy diet and stay away from sugar. Sugar slows down your healing.

Also, try to relax and have positive thoughts. Attitude is important going into surgery.

My surgery is next week. I have to have both hips replaced due to OA. I'm 53 yrs. old and i havn.t been able to walk with out pain for the last 15 years. It's just been these last 4 that have been the most difficult.

You'll be so gald to kick the pain to the curb, as i will as well.

Wishing you a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

I used Aleve one, every morning and sometimes one at night..... I also found putting heat right over the bone helped.... I used heat patches on work days

like Miele said , it did not relieve it but took the edge off

keeping my mind busy also helped,

sometimes it would say "just get through today", and in the evening I would "one more day closer"

    sending you positive thoughts ....

Thank you for your reply, Deborah. I actually take morphine

four times a day for pain. Have for a few years. But I still hurt around my entire pelvis. Heat and massage help a little, and so does watching tv or playing on my tablet. See my new post for update and good luck to you.
