    Celt34:

I was slated to use 75mg/three times daily for Diabetic Neuropathy, I actually use 75mg/twice daily.

Pregabalin seems to have a "set point" which precludes any additional benefit after 300/mg a day, I get along just fine with 75/mg twice daily, I get all the benefits without the "Lyrica Fog"

I'am actually feeling pretty damn good, wish I could say the same for all other users. As I said before sometimes less is more, that's true for me, but, maybe not the same for you or others, it's all in a case by case basis.

God Bless all and a prayer to all for better health...Grey...smile

      hi grey,

my brother has peripheral neuropathy. He was taking first gabapentin but after taking it for 3 weeks he experienced sudden drop of temperature from cold to hot.switching from time to time and always in constant pain from his face, hands and feet. Then i had severe chills all of a sudden. So we had him stop gaba. on the 2nd day of not taking the meds he felt ok. He was able to walk and the pain subside. There are some small frequent pain but the doctor told him to take Lyrica since there is still pain but it's not that too much pain. He is now on his 7th day. 2nd day of taking it he's experiencing something pain on his finger tips and toes. If you touch it it's painful for him and he now has problem walking on his own because he dont have strengh to hold himself much and having hard time carrying heavy stuff even and glass or cellphone. This afternoon without warning the sever chills came back. Is this all some effects from the meds? should he continue or stop it. I have TN but i'm scared to try these anti-convulsant drugs because the first trying it I have severe chills when I'm sleeping and entire back so painful to touch. so i stopped it. I have some attacks sometimes if I'm stress but I only take mefenamic 500mg and it wont work.only cold water works for me. please help me with my brother. I dont know what to do anymore. to let him continue or nnot. He's nerve problems caused by TB meds.

Wow, this is big can of worms. O.K. then. From my medical/pharmacology training I'll answer your question as best I can. Lyrica is a drug designed by Pfizer primarily for eplilepsy treatment, period end of subject. Off label uses for GAD or neuropathic pain, (although now recognized and approved) was not the intention In my opinion of the use of Pragabalin. It's one of those wonder drugs that has many uses, although in my opinion was not the original intention of Pfizer, (in my opinion.) Many drugs start out with a single specific purpose, and wind up being shoved into off-label use until approved, (like Viagra, a blood pressure med that caused unexpected erections in the elderly patients in clinical trials, and now is used solely for erectile disfunction.)

Many Doctors are using Lyrica for GAD, as a primary or starting drug for anxiety, and many Doctors are starting with much more effective and less side effect producing drugs such as Sertraline or Cymbalta.

Max dose for Lyrica for any condition seems to be no more than 300mg/daily after that the benefits seem to diminish, or actually get worse.

Sertralin/Cymbalta/ and Abilify seem to be the best trio to treat Anxiety related disorders, with very minimal side effects, in my opinion Lyrica is still unproven for GAD conditions, even if it is a CNS depressent, I think there are much better options with less side effects.

Warm thoughts to you, and a prayer for your Anxiety...Grey...smile

Hi sorry to drop by so late. I have diagnosed with anxiety and started on pregabalin today. The psychiatrist deemed ssri as not useful due to my previous experience. 2 years of GP messing about before finally referring me for psychiatric assessment. I am just wondering how everyone is getting on 4 months on after this thread was started. I am tritating 75mg to start then upto 75mg twice daily on Saturday.

    Hi Debbie,

I were on Pregabalin for 2.5 years and the side effects were awful. Asked my doctor to take me off them but he would not because the Rheumatologist put me on them. So I weaned myself off them, but very slowly. From 6 a day for a week...to 5 for a week...4 for a week etc, now of compleatly and lost 12lb aswell.

Hope all is ok with you...Anne

      Hi Tia,

Not been on here for a little while, so appologies for the late reply.

Yes, in the first eight months it helped the pains greatly, but then my body must have got used to them or rejected them not sure which. But I could not put up with the side effects. I am still in lots of pain, but cope with Oramorph and Paracetamol and lots of short strolls for now anyway.

      Good Luck...Anne...

      hi Tia.

my docs suggested lycia for fibrosis. I'm a bit wary and now can't see my doc got two weeks!! they've only one doc at my surgery now as they have all left!! would you or anyone be able to lend me a few to take and see how I get on with them? I know it's a random question but I can't take the pain anymore and things like codeine I want to avoid as have heard many bad things about it.

      many thanks.

This drug is over prescribed and bad news as far as I'm concerned.I have been put on this drug twice now for nerve pain from a severe neck injury in 08. I went off it the first time in 2011, I did not go off it slow enough and had severe side effects, even got divorced after 20 years of marriage. I was also taking several other drugs and did not notice that the lyrica was to blame for my emotional distress until now. I had withdrawls for 3 months and went 5 days without sleep. I was taking 225mg twice daily the first time and now taking 75mg twice daily. I did not see what this drug was doing to me until I nearly lost my job, lost my boyfriend and a few friends as well. I know this drug is to blame for my abnormal behaviors, didn't see them till they were pointed out to me. I feel quite ill at times and I'm down to 75 mg once a day, I take it at about 3pm so I do not notice withdrawls while sleeping. My next step is to dump out half the capsule and take it a 3pm for a month, then will dump out more for another month. I strongly suggest not taking this drug for anxiety, it actually increases anxiety with me. I want to die, wish I would just never wake up and feel as though my life is going to be hell forever. I can hardly wait to be off it completely......will never let them put me on it ever again, for any reason. The first time I went off this medication my doctor gave me another drug to help ease the side effects of my withdrawls, it was clidinium-chlordiazepoxi 2.5-5 caps. It really helped me out

This is simple. If you will take Naltreoxone 50 mg a day for two weeks you can easily wean the Lyrica . Continue the naltreoxone for six weeks.  You can wean from any dose using this drug.

Hi all, this may sound superficial - the lyrica seems to work well making me feel on an even keel regards anxiety - but I've put on over half a stone in weight, and still counting, since starting it.  I've been home a lot near the fridge recently, yes, but it's rare that I put on weight so rapidly in a short space of time, less than two months.  I just wanted to check other peoples' experiences regards weight issues.  I don't thik this is great, do I have to sped lots of time at the gym just to counter this?   Or maybe I should risk coming off it to try to be slimmer, and therefore less depressed?
