How I cured my acid reflux, naturally.

Hi:  It seems like there are many more people suffering from acid reflux than ever before.  Professionals offer only medications and surgery.  I have suffered from acid reflux on and off for some 20 years.  After much research and meditation on how the esophageal sphincter functions, I discovered a low cost solution.  Two or three times a day I drink orange flavored carbonated mineral water.  After drinking it, I hold back the burp for 3 to 5 minutes, sometimes longer.  Then burp the air out.  Make sure to always do this right before bed.  This forces the esophageal sphincter to work hard to hold down the increasing air pressure.  It is the only way to strengthen this muscle.  After nearly 2 years of nexium,  I am now completely off acid blockers and only take a sip of water with sodium bicarbonate before bed, just for protrection. Please try this and let me know if you also find relief from acid reflux.  I hope you do.  Regards, John

How long did you have to do this before you noticed an approvement John?

One thing that i don't quite understand though, that that Drs advise that you will see improvement if you loose weight if you have excess as having extra weight puts pressure on the valve is this not the same thing, maybe I've misunderstood.

Thanks for sharing, will def give it a go

Many of my normal weight friends have acid reflux.  And many of my over weight friends do not have any digestive problems.  I believe that doctors are just using the situation to get their patient to lose some weight.  I don't think there is any connection.  There was a study done where they put normal adults with no issues on acid blockers for a few months, then they abruptly stopped the acid blockers.  Most of those normal people then complained that they had acid reflux.  It is basically unknown what is causing the increase in acid reflux.  I believe most people are mineral deficient and so I recommend the magnesium supplement mentioned above.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts after having a continous sore throat/earache for 3 years i have read lots of articles and experiences with people, there are just sooo many conflicting opinions and sadly that applies to the medical world to, sometimes it just all gets to much and you don't know what to do for the best, but i have never heard of what you have suggested before and look forward to trying it, thank you John, and sooo pleased that you found something that worked so well for you

Like I mentioned above, having a weak esophageal sphincter can make a person miserable.  Many different symptoms.  There is a symptom many do not know about.  It is asperated reflux.  This is when a sleeping person inhales the liquid acid into their lungs and they wake up not breathing or able to breath.  I believe that many people who die in their sleep and are diagnosed as having a heart attack, actually died from asperated reflux.  Very scary.  I had one of these eppisodes a few years ago and realized that I needed to deal with this problem or I could die from it.  Acid blockers do not address this problem.  Everyone who has any acid reflux needs to immediately get a wedge to sleep on, or evevate their bed at least 6 inches.  I hope you get some relief from this information. Regards, John

Hi jules like you I have had a sore ear for more than 5 years. Also now suffering from persistent coughing first thing in the morning is worst time or after eating and phlegm with a feeling of tiredness and nausea sometimes. Been back and forth to the doctors without any joy. So I think I will try the elimination of some trigger foods which I love such as peppers onions tomatoes argh which I love.

I have got rid of onions and peppers, chilli flakes, lemon, apple cider vinegar which now hurt.  Tomatoes I am ok with.  I also have dropped the half fat milk to skimmed or almond.  Plain organic bio yoghurt also hurt me.

I have dropped several different vitamins as they burn.  I have not dropped alcohol (smooth red wine) but don't go near fizzy anything.

I have had reflux esoph and HH for 7 months now and it was very painful up the chest - like an elephant sat on my chest and in the throat and pain in the back.  Fluttering in lower chest and feeling like slight asthma.  No cough and little mucus.  Specialist went straight for PPI high strength.  I am not going on them unless my life depends on it (Barretts) so asked for a different script of Zantac.

I hope I am not jinxing myself now but I am soo much better this last month - this is what I have been doing - quite simple really.

One 150mg Zantac at 9am and one 150mg at 9pm - 4 Mastic Gum also at 9pm.  Raised the bed 7 inches and also an extra pillow.  Plenty of warm water all day and  sugar free chewing gum to reduce acid.

I feel so much better with just these measures.  Docs can keep the PPIs.

Seen loads of great info on here - some things work some don't (one that did not for me was Slippery Elm) phew that one hurt so binned it.

Thought  I would post this as I do feel a lot better - and  I was bad - so bad that anyone walking passed me with perfume or aftershave, hurt my chest.  And don't get me started on hair laquer or deodorant!!!!!!!

      Keep trying things guys.

p.s.  Another thing I have just added is Coffee made from Chickory (dont think I can name it here) it contains inulin which reduces acid.

      Hi Gwen,

I saw this post about your symptoms and how you relieved them. I have the exact same symptoms. I have pressure and pain in breastbone, pain in back, sore throat and burning in ears. The pressure was so bad in chest I couldn’t eat anything. I suffer from anxiety as well so this made me panic and I ended up in hospital to check my heart. They gave me strong dose of Protonix which seemed to help for a week but then I broke out in a rash and had to stop. Now all I can take is Zantac. I still can’t eat much without feeling bad but don’t know if part of it is mental since I don’t want to feel as bad as I did to go to the hospital. I’m glad your feeling better. How long did it take and are you completely cured today?

sorry one thing i forgot to ask, did you change your diet much at the same time?

I did not change my diet much.  I do now eat yogurt first thing in the morning, but that is for other syptoms that I have, intestinal bloating.  I still have a few issues I'm working on.  My stomach makes acid rather than produce hunger pangs.  So, I eat something every two hours to soak up the acid.  I can feel the acid in my stomach, but not burning my esophagus as I had before.

Hi John I haven't commented in a while but am still working on weaning myself off ppis. I was taking them twice per day. Tried going off too fast and had terrible rebound so started over. Now I'm down to one every day and two only twice a week. Supplementing with famotadine and gaviscon when necessary. Still working on drinking the carbonated water. At this rate it will take a while but I'm going to do it. I'll be down to only one per day soon.
