How I cured my acid reflux, naturally.

Hi:  It seems like there are many more people suffering from acid reflux than ever before.  Professionals offer only medications and surgery.  I have suffered from acid reflux on and off for some 20 years.  After much research and meditation on how the esophageal sphincter functions, I discovered a low cost solution.  Two or three times a day I drink orange flavored carbonated mineral water.  After drinking it, I hold back the burp for 3 to 5 minutes, sometimes longer.  Then burp the air out.  Make sure to always do this right before bed.  This forces the esophageal sphincter to work hard to hold down the increasing air pressure.  It is the only way to strengthen this muscle.  After nearly 2 years of nexium,  I am now completely off acid blockers and only take a sip of water with sodium bicarbonate before bed, just for protrection. Please try this and let me know if you also find relief from acid reflux.  I hope you do.  Regards, John

Hello, i am new to gerd and i have many questions. Such as what is the best approach to take when dealing with gerd? Medication wise a lifestyle wise?

    Is gerd curable?

What is the best place to get info about gerd?

I know you may not have all the answers but worth a shot in getting info from others who have had it longer than me.

So a lil about me ..

I started noticing symptoms when i was pregnant with my 4th child.

I have since then started a workout routine, eating one two meals max a day with banana or something i know i can snack. I drink nothing but water but love to so may try marshmallow tea. I don't get burning in chest. And i mostly eat chicken and rice and veggies cooked. Scared of other foods.

I have an appointme t with a gastroenterologist Anyone and everyone thanks in advance for feedback!

There are many different digestive problems that can happen.  GERD is specifically rewferring to acid reflux and the burning feeling in the esophagus.  The stomach can cause other symptoms such as pain, burning, nausea and more.  The small intestine can cause issues like bloating or cramping.  Your doctor may possibly be able to isolate the problem.  I took an H pylori blood test which was negative.  I also did a stool sample for the colon and it came up "clean".  Information is helpful.  I would suggest you try different things separately and see what helps.  Try the yogurt in the morning treatment discribed above.  You could then try mild enzymes with meals.  You could try adding myralax with your morning water.  Most of us here on this forum have three or more issues at the same time.  There are also many other digestive forums here on this site and others on the internet.  I mainly focus on 'my carbonated water treatment for acid reflux'.  Keep me updated

Hi John, I'm glad I found your page at least to know that I'm not alone in this. I have been diagnosed with GERDS about a year ago. I don't feel the burning sensation, but I do feel a piece of food or something that just travels up and down my esophagus from the moment I wake up until I go to bed. Recently I have developed the chest pains which after going to the ER I was told it wasn't my heart.  I have had a camera go into my stomach to detect ulcers but nothing was found. Also I have a really sensitive feeling in one spot to the left of my stomach which flares up when I sit down or right after  I eat. My doctor said it might be a hernia, but did no tests for it. She just told me to strengthen my stomach muscles. The gastro doc told that it was a muscle spasm and to just put heat on it. None did any X-rays and now I feel a dumb not having asked for the X-rays. They put me on omeprazole and I took it for 2 months but it didn't work. Doc changed my dose to something higher, but I'm not going to take it.  I'm not taking anything except yogurt in the mornings and changed my diet but there has to be something else. I've read here of carbonated water. I'll give that a try. Should I push for an X-ray of my stomach at least to know if I have a hernia? If I do, why won't docs want to fix that? Frustrated. Thank you for any help I get.

Forgot to mention that a year ago I took meds for hpilory.

      Hi Tazzy:

Sorry to hear you are going through this.  It sound like a typical failure of your medical system.  I have had to direct my doctor also by doing research and then asking for the needed tests.  It sounds like it could be what's called a sliding hernia.  This is when the diaphragm becomes detached and moves up and down the esophagus.  It could also be constipation as the large intestine goes up and across below the diaphragm.

The sliding hernia may not be diagnosed during a standard endoscopy.  You will likely need a specialized x-ray with Barium or MRI scan.

There are other organs and glands that can cause a pressure feeling.  The thyroid can become enlarged and there are numerous lymph nodes and lymph glands in that area.

Some people have an esophageal pocket which traps some food in it.  Always make sure to chew thoroughly and drinks plenty of water with meals.  Wash down any pills with food, not just water.

I don't think your symptoms point to GERD.  Although there is silent re-flux disease.  But normally it will lead to a burning sensation and you don't have that.

An old remedy for a sliding hernia was to drink a glass of water and then jump up and down gently to pull the stomach back down.  My carbonated water treatment may cause the stomach to inflate and push the diaphragm back up, but it could push it up too high and cause discomfort.

It is always best to find the cause before pursuing a treatment plan.  High nutrition is always a good idea when an illness hits.  I would recommend organic vegetable and fruit juicing.  Yogurt smoothies, a multiple B vitamin and multi mineral with food.

Keep me posted as to what you find out.  John

    Hi John,

I have just been diagnosed with severe oesophagitis as a result of reflux, my stomach and duodenum appeared ok and I came back negative for H. Pylori. I have been prescribed 20mg rabeprazole sodium for 3 months. I have already previously been taking a different ppi prior to the endoscopy. I have heard a lot of negative information regarding ppi use but feel very stuck at the moment and feel as though I need it to allow my body to heal some more. Could you advise what would be my best course of action?

      Hi Natasha:

You need to try my carbonated water treatment.  It will strengthen your esophageal sphincter.  A weak sphincter can cause more than just reflux issues, it can allow acid to go upward while you sleep where it can be inhaled causing reflux aspiration.  It can stop your breathing.  Very dangerous.  You should incline the head of your bed by 8 inches.  Start the carbonated water treatment right away.  In a week you will notice a difference.

      1. Drink 6oz of fresh carbonated water.  2. Hold down the burp for 5 minutes.  3. Burp.

Each week add 1 oz of carbonated water and add 5 minutes until you work up to 8 oz and 20 minutes sessions.  Eventually you will not feel any discomfort when you do this.  That means the sphincter is re-learning to shut down tight and is getting stronger.   Keep me posted.  John

I was wondering if anybody has used slippery elm for gastritis and acid reflux. I tried two of them and emptied them in water and drink it and it was very nasty. They made my stomach hurt. I don't know if I was suppose to take them that way or not since you injest it quicker that way. Any suggestions on what I did wrong. I was hoping this would work ,because I need something to soothe my stomach. I'm really afraid to try them again.

Hi Gloria:  I have tried it with limited success.  I found marshmallow tea provided some relief.  My longest relief comes from opening a natural vitamin E capsule and swallowing a few drops each hour or two.  It not only coats but promotes healing and reduces the feeling of gastritis.  For more permanent relief of acid reflux, try my carbonated water treatment described right above your comment.

Hi john glad it worked for you but I have a small hatius hernia they don't recommend an operation so would it work for me, desperate to cure this problem. Mary

Hi Mary:  There is no way for me to know for sure if the carbonated water will help your condition.  If you want to try, I would suggest you start with a small amount of carbonated water, like 6 oz, hold the burp down for 5 minutes and see if it causes too much discomfort.  If you feel okay, then you could add 1 oz each week and add 5 minutes to each session.  This should be done 4 or 5 times a day to get results.  Let me know how it goes.  John
