How I cured my acid reflux, naturally.

Posted , 202 users are following.

Hi:  It seems like there are many more people suffering from acid reflux than ever before.  Professionals offer only medications and surgery.  I have suffered from acid reflux on and off for some 20 years.  After much research and meditation on how the esophageal sphincter functions, I discovered a low cost solution.  Two or three times a day I drink orange flavored carbonated mineral water.  After drinking it, I hold back the burp for 3 to 5 minutes, sometimes longer.  Then burp the air out.  Make sure to always do this right before bed.  This forces the esophageal sphincter to work hard to hold down the increasing air pressure.  It is the only way to strengthen this muscle.  After nearly 2 years of nexium,  I am now completely off acid blockers and only take a sip of water with sodium bicarbonate before bed, just for protrection. Please try this and let me know if you also find relief from acid reflux.  I hope you do.  Regards, John

    Hi John,

I'm new to this forum but I have been reading along for a few weeks now.  I've suffered from GERD since I was pregnant 8 years ago.  Like most women, I viewed pregnancy as a license to eat.  My weight ballooned and so did the heartburn.  Once I had my baby and lost the weight, the indigestion went away.  But as the years passed, I put on weight and the symptoms returned.  So for the past year or so, it's gotten severe.  I'm now on 2 doses of meds and it's just not working.

One day I found this forum and starting reading.  I found your post about the carbonated water and decided to give it a try.

Today is day 4 and the difference is pretty startling.  I noticed right away that I didn't have the pain in my back that I normally have from my inflamed esophagus. And I also slept better at night.  Yes I have my bed on wooden blocks but that only helped a little.  There were still many nights I woke with nausea.  I've also changed my diet and lost 30 lbs.  But still nothing is giving me the relief like your water idea.

I'm using Perrier but only because that's what we currently have in the house. And I'm holding down my burp for 10 minutes or so.  I can't chug the entire bottle but I do drink it as quickly as I can.  I seem to have little tiny burps escape but I'm wondering if that's cause I'm drinking mouthfuls with minute pauses in between.  That would open the LES and allow some gas to escape.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I'm doing this and it is working.  Thank you for your advice!

That’s great it’s working for you!!!

I’ve tried and I don’t seem to burp, I seem to burp constantly the rest of the time 🙄

How much are we meant to drink? And you say you drink quickly, is that what we are meant to do?

      Have you had an endoscopy?

      Hi Katie,

I'm scheduled for an endoscopy soon, just waiting on the appointment time.  According to the many posts of John, we should be drinking the water as quickly as possible.  Anywhere from 6-8 oz. each time.  The LES opens to allow the water to pass through and shuts right after. The gases produced by the carbonated water put pressure on the LES to open.  But we have to keep the pressure there by not burping, this keeps the LES closed.  This pressure is actually exercising the LES to strengthen.

      Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, I’ll try again!!

My endoscopy showed a slightly loose sphincter so I’d love to strengthen it if possible!! Deep breathing is said to be good too as it strengthens the diaphragm around the sphincter.

      Good luck with endoscopy

Hi Katie, I tried the water but it did not help me.  I have, however, done the breathing.  I do it for 20 breaths five times a day and I can feel a difference in my reflux.  Apart from massive health benefits overall in the body, you have nothing to lose.  (I also found my anxiety dropped and so did my blood pressure - win win).

That’s brilliant!! Not sure how I’ll fit that in 5 times a day 😬 I get bored after 5 minutes!! I know I must do it though, I do suffer anxiety, I used to do ‘Buteyko’ breathing for my anxiety symptoms and it really helped, it’s all about being disciplined and doing it again.

Do you just do relaxed breathing or do you breath in and out a certain number of times? So many breathing exercises out there!!

Sorry I thought you said 20 mins 5 times a day!!! I’ll definitely stick to doing it if it helps!

      Hi Highwayhen:

Thank you for trying the carbonated water treatment and also for helping to educate others on how to do it.  It sounds like you are making good progress.  When a person has suffered with GERD for some time then there could be some damage to the tissue in the sphincter area.  But, I believe that 99% of people will be able to heal the damage over time.  The important thing is to prevent any additional damage.

I often suggest diet changes, because GERD is likely a result of many things occurring at the same time.  An overgrowth of bad bacteria can cause gas that forces it's way upward while we sleep.  So, I recommend organic probiotic yogurt first thing in the morning.  Then a full glass of warmed purified water.  And at least one large organic salad every day.  Use only extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar as a dressing.  Olive oil is very healing.  I recommend a tablespoon of olive oil every four hours.  Also, liquid NATURALvitamin E.  Break a capsule and swallow the oil so it coats the throat and esophagus.  I always do this right before bed as it improves the sphincter seal.  Keep up the good work.  John

Hi john, thanks for your great advice!!

Do you think once the sphincter has loosened it can be helped? According to all the tests I’ve had done ( I’ve had them all 🤣wink there is no damage done... yet but my sphincter is slightly lax, my oesophagul motility is also affected.

I’ve tried the fizzy water on a number of occasions but I don’t burp at all! This is odd as I burp constantly.

I’ll try the olive oil too although I have a lot on my food.

I do take slippery elm as this coats the oesophagus.

Have you recovered fully from GERD? I’ve had forva year now, it’s rather stressful.

      Hi Katie:

I started out with at least 5 digestive issues.  However, GERD was disrupting my life the most.  Now, that I have conquered that issue, I was able to work on the others.  Yes, I am pretty functional now.  I sleep flat, eat what I choose, and rarely think about GERD.  But, I do have a morning regimen that includes a large warmed glass of purified water, a large yogurt / veggie smoothie, then my coffee with breakfast.

I think most people can cure their GERD with the carbonated water treatment.  The sphincter responds quickly to the treatment.  It is designed to pinch closed all the time, unless water or food is passing by.  But, there are things we do that can lead to GERD.  Poor diet, smoking, legal drugs like birth control pills, steroidal nasal spray and bad bacteria buildup.  Some medications can burn the stomach lining causing gastritis and burping, forcing acid up the esophagus.

Do the carbonated water treatment and let me know how it works for you.  Use only fresh carbonated water as it goes flat very fast.  John

Lol - no I could not do 20 mins.  I picked this up in a book I have bought, but  like you say loads out there.  I also do left nostril breathing but that takes me a couple of mins only.  The one for the diaphragm is to breathe out from the belly (belly breathing) for about 6 breaths, hold for a second and let the belly deflate for count of 7. (Put your hand on your tum to feel the rise and fall).  I do this between 10 and 20 breaths, especially if I am awake at night, I do a couple of rounds so less to do in the day.  It is different breathing to that I would normally do.  I used to use a blood pressure machine (well known) and it is deep breathing for 15-20 mins a day but you take a full breath - don't hold on to it at all - and let it out but through your mouth.  I know there seem so many ways to do this.  But I have dropped off the bp machine and am just doing this diaphragm way.  Defo feel something going on inside, and just also feel more clear headed and calmer.

      Have a go.

      All the best

      G.

Hi John, thank you for your advice, I have always been very healthy food wise but I stress a lot, I think maybe years of not breathing efficiently have weakened my diaphragm and in turn affecting my sphincter though not sure if that can be the case! I always start my morning with warm water and salt as I have POTs so it helps with the blood pressure apparently.

I have a smoothie with ginger and digestive enzymes etc.

I just don’t know why I don’t burp with the fizzy water, it’s so fizzy it hurts!! I burp after all my meals and drinks!!

I’m having my stool tested with a nutritionist to check the balance of bacteria so that will be interesting.

I’ll keep up with the fizzy water though!

When you had an endoscopy did they say your sphincter was loose?

Thank you Gwen, I will make a conservative effort to do this breathing, when I saw a specialist years ago he said I was hyperventilating so I know my breathing doesn’t help, also my muscles twitch and I feel foggy headed, these are all signs of stress and not breathing properly, now the blooming acid 🙄

      Have a good day ??

      Hi Samy:

I would suggest you just try two things for now.  Just add lots of organic probiotic yogurt.  1st thing in the morning then a large glass of warmed water.  Then 30 minutes later breakfast.  30 minutes before each meal, another cup of yogurt.  And more right before bedtime.  Add one large organic salad during the day with only olive oil and balsamic vinegar.  Do this for 30 days and let me know if you feel improvement.  John

Your welcome, my friend.  I am beginning to question these probiotics,  I wonder if the good bacteria really survives.  I tried to make yogurt with 4 capsules of probiotics, and it did not thicken at all, and does not smell like yogurt.  So, I would stick with real yogurt.  If you take it on an empty stomach and then drink some water, it will safely make it through the stomach.  Good bacteria does not normally stick well to the lining of the small intestine.  It does its good work in the large intestine.  Some doctors are now doing fecal transplants.  Transplanting from a healthy person to a person who has digestive problems.  And the doctors are shocked as to how quickly a sick person gets well.  Even saving lives.  Some people are just born with poor digestive bacteria diversity. The human body is more complex than anyone can imagine.  But, it normally want to heal itself if given the proper tools.
