How I cured my acid reflux, naturally.

Hi:  It seems like there are many more people suffering from acid reflux than ever before.  Professionals offer only medications and surgery.  I have suffered from acid reflux on and off for some 20 years.  After much research and meditation on how the esophageal sphincter functions, I discovered a low cost solution.  Two or three times a day I drink orange flavored carbonated mineral water.  After drinking it, I hold back the burp for 3 to 5 minutes, sometimes longer.  Then burp the air out.  Make sure to always do this right before bed.  This forces the esophageal sphincter to work hard to hold down the increasing air pressure.  It is the only way to strengthen this muscle.  After nearly 2 years of nexium,  I am now completely off acid blockers and only take a sip of water with sodium bicarbonate before bed, just for protrection. Please try this and let me know if you also find relief from acid reflux.  I hope you do.  Regards, John

    Hi John,

Well it's been 6 days since I started your carbonated water treatment and I have to say that I'm pretty gobsmacked!  I drink a 12 ounce can 4 times a day holding in my burp for 10-15 minutes.   Since then, I have been feeling fantastic!  Normal even!  So much so, that I have begun tapering off my second PPI by taking one every second day.

I can eat regular foods, drink tea and I don't have any heartburn or pain!

It was only a few weeks ago the pain was so severe that I begged my GP for a second PPI.  And once i was on it, it barely worked. The pain and heartburn would start to return every day around 1 pm. I could barely make it to suppertime.  And even then I only ate salads.

Now I'm eating regular meals but no junk food!  I hope this continues and soon I'll be able to start drinking coffee again.

    Thank you so much!  You're a God-send!

Wow! That is great to hear.  I'm so glad you stuck to it.  It is amazing how that little muscle can make a person so miserable.  But, thank God, it responds so quickly to a little exercise.  You have made all my hours on this forum worth while.  So, thank you.  John

So all I have to do is drink carbonated water and not burp for 5 mins??  What if I don’t have to burp at all do I force to burp??

      Hi Maryann:

Make sure you are using fresh carbonated water as it goes flat very quickly.  Try taking a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil before the treatment.  This will help improve the seal since many people have some scar tissue in the sphincter area.  Once you establish a good seal, you will feel the pressure build up and it may even be uncomfortable.  So just start with 5 minutes then each week add 5 minutes to each of 4 sessions per day.  Working up to 20 minutes.  Remember, you need to focus while doing this, otherwise the air will escape.  And you don't need to force a burp.  If pressure has built up, it will come out as soon as you relax.  Let me know if you still have trouble.  John

Hi Johnathon, just a quick question, I bought Organic extra virgin olive oil to take neat like you say, it tastes very strong, almost peppery, is that normal or has it gone off? I cook with olive oil all the time but never have neat so just wondered!

You say to have the oil before the fizzy water? My fizzy water is so fizzy but I still don’t burp! Yet if I drink water or my smoothie I do!! What’s going on?!

Hi there, I tried this and the same thing happened to me.  I just could not burp.  It worried me and made me feel like I wanted to take something to release the wind.  I could not even force a burp which normally I can do quite easily.

Weird isn’t it, I literally burn after everything, even water but I drink the fizzy water and it’s so fizzy it hurts but no burp 🙄

      Hi Katie:

If you have gastritis and sores in the esophagus, almost everything will burn or hurt.  Some olive oils are more acidic than other.  However many are also fake.  What happens if you drink a glass of water and then touch your toes while standing, does the water come out of your stomach? That would mean severe sphincter damage.  Let me know.

Hi Jonathan, thanks for your reply, my barium swallow was all clear but my endoscopy showed only a very slightly lax sphincter, no damage or gastritis.

I’ll try that with water but do t think it happens, when I had the barium and was tipped up after swallowing liquid nothing came out but my 24 ph testing did show some acid and but mainly non acidic contents coming up.

I just wondered if the fizzy water can still help me as I just don’t burp after drinking it!

Just downed a glass of water and touched my toes and nothing came up, so obviously not too bad but I still have acid daily, strangely it’s usually when I go from sitting to standing that I get it.

Hi Katie:  I'm not sure exactly why you don't build up pressure.  There is another way to strengthen the sphincter, but will cost more money.  You can get an inversion table.  Drink a glass of water and then invert.  The sphincter will react by closing down tight.  It sounds like this would work in your case.  These tables have gone down in price lately.  You may be able to buy a used one locally.   It would still be much better that jumping into surgery.  What do you think?

I’ve never heard of that! Will have to look it up!!

My gastroenterologist said there is no way of tightening the sphincter, you can only improve your diaphragm which will help the sphincter 🙄

I’ll keep on with the fizzy water and look into the inversion table!

      Many thanks!

I had to veer away from my doctors when I was very sick and they had no answers except surgery.  But, when you look closely at the medical industry, how much money would they make to suggest natural treatments.  Very little.  Surgery means 10 to $20,000 from insurance companies.  So, sometimes you have to find your own solution.  I still have an episode once or twice a year from an umbilical hernia.  But it was 6 to 12 times a year in 2014, so it is healing with exercise and nutritional support.  Remember the human body wants to heal, it may just need some support.  Organic vegetable juicing would really help if you can add that to your diet.  Stay in touch, John.

Hi John, I’m in the UK so quite lucky we have the NHS but I agree with you, I’d rather my body heal naturally if it’s possible, my gastroenterologist did agree that as there is no damage yet and the acid reflux is made worse by stress that I should try to fix it naturally first.

I’m seeing a nutritionist at the end of April so it will be interesting to see if she can help.

Thank you for all your advice.
