How long are people waiting for THR surgery?

I waited 48 weeks to see a consultant re a THR. Saw surgeon 4 weeks ago and was told it will be done in 12 weeks. To you think this is realistic? The waiting is terrible, I feel as if my life is on hold. I’m in the Lothian health board area. Consult was at Edinburgh royal infirmary but I have agreed to go to golden jubilee hospital in Clydebank to help speed things up.

Same in NZ. Depending on where we are. I'm in Auckland. Waiting for initial appt to see surgeon is up to 4 months. Once accepted onto the surgery list the wait is up to 4 months. I have heard in more remote areas the wait is longer.

Hi there,
4 weeks post op so I'm awake( such is life) I live in England. Saw my Dr in the November , was referred to my choice of hospital ( a centre of excellence) and saw the consultant in the December. I could have had surgery in the January but chose to defer it until May when the weather was better. This meant I had to come off their books and back on again to ensure they kept within their targets. This was all done on the NHS.

I had about a 9 month wait when the letter was sent from the GP to consultant then everything moved quickly. I am in North Wales, from consultants appointment the wait was about 6 weeks. In that 6 weeks I had appointments for the pre op clinic, validation class, joint school then another blood test 2 days before operation therefore, a busy 6 weeks.
The validation class went through everything, the surgeon came in and you could ask him any questions and we both signed papers. Joint school showed the implants used and this is where you should put in your order for any rehabilitation aids you will require, they will have asked you to measure bed, chair and toilet, then will advise the aids you will need to help recovery.

Hi, I'm also in the Lothians and had consult and surgery at Edinburgh Royal. I was referred by GP Jan 2016, saw consultant July 2016 and had op Sept 2016. I would expect timings and waiting lists are longer now after the problems over the winter. Everything and everyone involved were great from the surgeons to the porters and it has been a great success. My main problems are knee issues and problems with tendonitis in my other leg as it had to take the strain of me hobbling about while I was waiting for the op. There are a few more details in my 'about me'. Hope your operation goes well. 👣

For my first hip, I only waited 5 weeks from seeing the surgeon - but it had taken me about 4 months to go through the laborious NHS system......
For my second hip, my surgeon wanted to do it 6 months after the first one - I couldn't face the op so soon, so delayed the process for 6 months - and then it was a 3 month wait after that.
In hindsight (always a wonderful thing), I wish I had listened to my surgeon and had started the process to have the second one done after 6 months.

Here in the U.S. we don't wait nearly as long, but I have a family deductible of $6000 that I had to come up with. i am making payments to the hospital ( I have to pay off 4500). the rest I paid to the anthesiologist and my initial doctor visits with xrays. I put off having the surgery for quite a while because I did not have the money to pay my deductible, so I don't know what's worse. I also had to get back to work quickly, because I was on unpaid leave and had no money coming in to pay my damn deductible!
