I had a colonoscopy at the end of 2015, that led to a tertiary referral (hospital to hospital) to the specialist pelvic floor unit. I then had the diagnostic tests in Spring 2016, followed by being seen by the consultant in July 2016. I have seen him and the urogynaecologist three times since and the continence nurse twice, and am now on the waiting list for a surgical repair.

Hi Edith, you are lucky you are on the waiting list, Mr Williams my consultant said he doesnt want to do surgery on my rectocele which is a big let down for me as i will have to struggle with the toilet on my own and take laxatives in fact thats all he did was to give me more laxatives than i am already taking so it was unsatisfactory result

I'm sorry to hear that, Christine. Is it only laxatives that they've offered?

yes edith that is all i was offered even more laxatives so no resolve to my problem its a depressing future for me with the constatnt use of laxatives and he does not want to operate i am just being left i feel now

is it worth writing a letter i wonder to see if i can get more details of why they dont want to operate

If you are waiting for another proctogram see what they say when they have the results. Maybe a urogynaecologist is the wrong specialist as your prolapse is only 3cms. Perhaps you need to see a colorectal specialist in view of your constipation, that would be the next step. Ask your GP.

You should receive a copy of the letter that the clinic will send to your GP (as per the Trust's policy to cc patients). I agree with Matron regarding waiting what your proctogram says as there may be another reason for your constipation other than the rectocele. If you've had the proctogram and there isn't anything they've suggested for you, then again as Matron says, see your GP to see if they can help and advocate for you.

I am seeing the colorectal departement and not seeing a urogynaecologist so hopefully they will get back to me with the proctogram results and hopefully i can get somewhere with them

That's really good news christine because I think it's definitely a colorectal consultant you need to see. So try not to worry because I'm sure he/she will be able to help.
