From what I understand it varies. I was on 1200mg day for 30 days

    Weaned for one week

    Dizzy spells for three weeks

Dr treated the dizziness as benign positional vertigo and gave me exercises to do that helped

Some side effects definitely linger and you're right this medication is very dangerous

It was hell detoxing from it

      Thank you Jeshua

How do you feel now?  I guess as they say one day at a time.  We should complain to someone about this evil drug.  Naomi

You are right J. It depends on how long and what dose you have been taking. How long were you on Gaba ? When did you stope taking it, and how quickly you tapered off.  And also......were you and are you still taking any other type of medications at present ?  that could also be a factor in  your persisting side effects? Of course could also just be the gaba taking a long time leaving you ?

I just got my answer by reading your thread here from 5 days ago. It is astounding how quickly this drug gets into your system and remains for a protacted period !  I was taking about the same dose as you.....but for 4 years !  I've been on my tapered down dose of 100 mg/day or less and it took me 8 weeks to get where I am now......BUT I am basically about normal now.....a little lingering dizziness from time to time and some jittery nerves...but all is else is great !  I'm happy now !

It hard to withdraw from med and endure this stress.

Hello, I am new here and don't even know how to start a new discussion. I have been reading replies here and sounds scary. Have to start on 300MG . Any advice?

You don't have to start on it. It is your choice. Dr is just ordering you ? What is it for anyway. Pain ?

      David

Choose another med after you research it

Drs don't seem to have s clue

I insisted my doctor read medical reviews of the long range side affects and even then she did not write it up as part of my records

      It is an evil med

      Research it yourself

Stanford university has done extensive research but there is a lot out there

      Two things I suggest.

      1. Try to find either a doctor or a counselor or a pharmaceutical specialist familiar with detoxing from Gabapentin

      2. Before you do that pray and seek counsel as part of what you are going thru is trauma!

Detoxing from this med puts you through hell!

My prayers were answered when I was led to a counselor who had been given it to rehab from an injury and had a very similar reaction as I did

Medication poisoning is what the experience should be called and it was by one of the ER drs I encountered during the detox!

Thanks, took one pill one time today. I'll see what happened. Wanted to try it but not worth the risk with so many side effects. Thank you.

It doesn't feel bad while taking it except I couldn't drive and was lightheaded and dizzy s lot

But detoxing from it is hell

If you do decide to take it don't stop abruptly and let doctor know because cold turkey can cause seizures

My neurologist was prescribing it for me for a neuropathic pain and/or RLS.....but in fact it did not help much for pain etcc......I have read some research that indicates it's only effective in some people...and only 18 % noticed any relief.... Besides the adverse side effects don't make it worth it! So many Docs are using any given medication as off label user. In other words, meds like Gaba.  were approved for seizure prevention, but now many docs prescribe it for pain management, and even for anxiety, and other uses.... I was able to withdraw from it completely over 2 months ago and now I feel so much better.....I hand any pain I have not with just common analgesics like ibuprofen or tylenol........

I cannot agree with Jeshuaschild more! Withdrawal/Detoxing from GB not only gave me a near death experience where I was sure I was going to meet my maker, and I had been praying for relief from the pure hell I was going through for weeks before even beginning to taper-off.  God let me live though, because he has purpose for me still.  And like Jeshuaschild, pray for guidance, develop a taper-off schedule with your  PCP (not the SICK doctor who put you on it. And go away and be with someone you trust to advise and take care of you for the first 2-3 weeks.  A person with lots of wisdom and experience. I went to a Sanctuary in the hill country of Texas on Lake Buchanan.  My 24x7 healer with several degrees who took great care of me used a combination of treatments and therapies which included eating health, herbal supplements, unlocked my blocked bowels with herbs and diet and lots of reflexology, accupressure, deep tissue massage, Epsom salt soaks in hot water, and her listening to me rant and rave as needed.  I left after 10 days at her facility.  My mind is clearer every day, I do however continue having trembling, shaking, nervousness and anxiety along with uncontrollable talking.  My PCP prescribed 2 - 0.05mgs tablets of Xanax every 4-6 hour (as needed). And, believe me, I need it.  I am not additicted to it, but it seems to be one of the few things that help with the above side effects of withdrawal that I experience all day and all night if I don't take it. I am keeping up with the healthy diet and the supplements, starting yoga which my healer recommended and praying and listening to progressive Christian music which is encouraging.  Thank Jeshuaschild for your comments..... Yours was helpful and I help mine are as well for anyone going through this terrible process.
