How long does key hole surgery take?

Posted , 5 users are following.

I'm having key hole surgery tomorrow to remove an ovarian cyst (ovary is also being removed). The surgeon says it will take about 2 hours. I'm wondering, however, how long I will be at the hospital from when I arrive to when I leave. It is supposed to be out-patient. Does anyone have any personal experience with this? Any words of advice? I'm kind of frightened to be honest!

    Hiya!

I'm literally about to go in for a ovarian cystectomy in 2 hours! I know it's not key hole but my original surgery was going to be that, untill my cyst got to big!

I got told I'd go in, an hour after would be my opp which I got told would take 30mins-hour then recover in recovery for how ever long that took then go home!

I expect they check you to make sure you will be fine and I know you have to go to the toilet before they let you leave,

    Hope this helps a bit!

    Good luck x

Its strange how different hospitals do things differently! I have to be in by 11.30 but op is not till 4 and I will be in two nights! Actually thinking about it now I dont know why I am not just having the cysts removed, but the ovary and tube too! Well I guess I dont need them anymore so it will stop any future cysts maybe thats why

Hi ladies I went in for a laproscopy Monday .. They removed a possible dermoid cyst on my left ovary and also took away my ovary and tube ...my heart slowed so they ended up having to re pump and put me on meds to get it back again ..It turned in to a mini laparotomy yo deliver the 6 cm cyst. .. I had to stay I over night but managed to beg them to let my home for today as it's my birthday but I'm stuffed up with morphene ..can honestly say you won't know how long till it'd done good luck

I am going in next week for an oophorectomy. The literature i have been given says about 30 minutes and i am having cysts, right ovary and tube rermoved as well as endimetriosis and adhesions sorted!! I was told I would be in for 2 nights as my op is at 4 in theafternoon. 30 minutes doesnt sound long to do all of that does it?! Hmmmmm well a guess they dont knowtill they have gone in, its keyhole

Yes 30 minutes sounds like way to short of a time to get everything sorted properly. Let us know when you are recovered how things went.

Hi Lizzy hope you don't mind my popping in !  Just read your post and wanted to reassure you as you said you're frightened. Well I had an oophorectomy 18 months ago and to put your mind at rest you don't need to be scared, the nurses and all involved are really lovely and kind and caring, you will be talked through everything before you go to theatre and made quite comfortable before and after. My op was quite a long time but I didn't know a thing about it til I woke up and neither will you, and you're not in pain as they take care of that. Just think you will be so relieved when it's all over, and it soon will be ! Lots of hugs and best wishes and try not to stress or worry it will be over before you know it x
