How long does your first outbreak last?

I was just told by my doctor that I have Herpes and it is the most painful thing I have ever lived through. How long does it last? Also I do everything I can to avoid going to the bathroom it is so painful. I’ve tried sitting in a tub of water when I do it but that does not help really. What can I do to go to the bathroom with little pain as possible ?

Hello,
I have recently been diagnosed with Genital Herpes and currently going through my first outbreak! I felt reading everyone’s stories online has really helped so I thought I would share mine!
On the 21st of feb my vagina was sore and I noticed what looked like an ulcer near my clit, I assumed it was an infected cut so I cleaned it (which was excruciating) and put some savlon on it.
On the 22nd I was still in pain and noticed discharged so I got an appointment at the clinic that day and was examined, the nurse suspected I had herpes and also diagnosed me with BV. She gave me tablets for both which I began taking that day! I told my boyfriend straight away when I got home what it might be and he was very understanding as I explained either of us could of had it without knowing as you don’t always get symptoms, so girls who are scared to talk to their partners- you just need to trust them and I’m sure they will understand, my boyfriend has been such a help through my whole experience!
The 23rd I noticed I had lots more sores appear, around 30 I would say all over my vagina, it was so painful, I could only wee in the bath and even then that hurt so much, I cleaned my vagina frequently using Cotten pads and warm Salt water.
The 24th and 25th I was in agony, I couldn’t go to work, walking hurt, I was still having so much trouble urinating and then only time I wasn’t hurting was when sitting in a bath! Again I was still cleaning often and also using a hairdryer to dry may vagina on the coolest setting! I noticed that the sores was really angry red on the outside and yellow in the middle. I benefited from when wearing knickers to put a panty liner in to reduce the discomfort of the discharge!
The 25th I was still sore but the sores appeared to be getting smaller, I was taking ibuprofen everyday religiously to help with the pain!
26th and 27th I started to feel better, the sores hurt but no where near as much as the weekend and they was slowly going down, I noticed that getting a lot of sleep and sleeping with no pants or anything on really helped!
The 28th, 1st and 2nd of March I braved going to university, I was weeing on the toilet and I had never felt better that my horrible experience was over, I still had a couple of sores but my vagina was hurting no where near as bad as before! My discharge had all gone !
Then the 3rd and 4th of March I began having trouble weeing again, my vagina was itching loads, especially along my groin and anus! I had finished my antibiotics on the 1st and it appeared I had more sores appearing again! I wasn’t sure if they were just old sores blistering or if new ones was coming but i was in lots of pain once again.
The 5th March I was in so much pain I had to go back to the doctors where they confirmed I had type 2 genital herpes and gave me some more antiviral medication and also this time some numbing cream which has been my saviour when needing a wee! I had more sores that evening but not as many as the previous week, maybe 20 this time but still all very painful, I had to call into work sick as even walking was so uncomfortable, the sores are now on the outer lips of my vagina and down my groin which is very uncomfortable!
6th of March I am back to weeing in the bath, or using the numbing cream, I have salt baths again maybe 3 times a day, my vagina is now not as sore as the previous week however I cannot sleep at night due to itching or the discomfort of the discharge making me moist, I’m taking antiviral meds again for 5 days!
It has been the worst experience I’ve ever had so far but getting me through which could help anyone with their first out break also would be
•salt baths- they ease the pain and itch and easy to wee in when finished
•drying the vagina with a hair dryer- doesn’t hurt like when using a tissue or towel
• using warm salt water throughout the day to clean the sores
• always wash hands after to prevent spreading as I believe that’s what happened to me when I gained more sores
•don’t use savlon or germoline etc as it makes the vagina feel moist and even more uncomfortable and just doesn’t to contribute reducing the sores
•take paracetamol and ibuprofen to ease your pain
I hope this helps anyone, and I will hope to do an update soon on when the (hopefully) all clear up!
