Just wondering how long most people have off sick from work. Got signed off from the hospital for 6 weeks quite a manual job i do alot of bending and twisting which isnt going to be good for it. I know every one heals at different rates but just wanting to know an average i get paid for 6 months at full pay at least

Depends on what approach your having?? I had posterior, I'm 5 weeks today. Still on crutches, still in a lot of pain at times , still struggling to sleep , not signed off for driving. There's no way I'd be able to go back to work, currently not manual work 😱

I think you should take as much off as you can . A good physiotherapist is a must X you need to build up all the muscles correctly to protect your new hip . Dislocation doesn't bare thinking about 😳. You need to be 100% if your going back to a physical job X

    Hi Dominic.

I am now 7 weeks post op I'm recovering well. My UK consultant told me 8 Weeks to drive and 8-10 to return to work.

I wasn't happy with this but now think he was spot on. My job invlolves driving and sitting for up to 2 hours in people's homes.

Don't rush it. If you get 6 months paid the take as long as you need. There are no medals for heroes.

      Hi Sandra

      Hopeyou are doing well

I had my 6 week check up with Surgeon last week  was actually nearer 8 weeks as he was off on holiday , so everything went well he was pleased with progress , Checked leg length , felt around all the bones and seemed very happy . Said I was fine to drive and to wean myelf off the crutches ( had been waling around indoors without them mostly and juust using them outside)  Said I didnt need physio , just to keep doing exrecises that I had been doing . So that gave me a bit of confidence and have been doing fine , still get wee twinges in hip and thigh , he said that as perfectly normal and was just the muscles all settling down,

Swapped the ccrutches for a stick but I used it once or twice and havent since . Was out all afteernoon on Saturday on a ferry trip and was fine ,  felt I was finally back in the land of the living!!  have med cert for another 4 weeks but would like to go back to work before that . Altho dont want to run before I can walk ! so will take my time .1st few weeks were the worst and the time dragged and I feltt i was never getting there but it comes eventually !

      Hi Jan

Pleased to hear recovery is going well. I see consultant next week and hopefully he will let me drive and return to work.

I'm good apart from stiffness when I first stand up and a bit of an ache at the very top of femur bone. Probably just the healing. Otherwise can do most things now.

      Love and hugs xxx

    Hi Dominic

I had a left THR and I'm 51. I work as a plumber and had 10 weeks off post op.

I didn't feel overly confident when I went back but you just gotta get on with it.

Don't overdo it, but I found after 10 weeks that stretching, lifting and bending was very helpful for my rehabilitation.

I'm 4.5 months now and pretty much doing everything that I could do before the op

    Best of luck

    Jez

Twisting and bending can be an issue. That's how I dislocated my hip, but it was within the first week or so. 3 weeks later I had a hip revision. And I'm now 3 months out and my dr is still telling me no twisting!!! He has shown me how to like mop and sweep where I won't be twisting. Bending is another one, he had shown me how to bend getting things from floor. It just might be me that had this but it's worth talking to your dr and make sure since your job entails twisting and bending. Good luck and hope you have a speedy recovery!!
