Just wondering how long most people have off sick from work. Got signed off from the hospital for 6 weeks quite a manual job i do alot of bending and twisting which isnt going to be good for it. I know every one heals at different rates but just wanting to know an average i get paid for 6 months at full pay at least

I had the posterior approach and was told no bending or lifting for 12 weeks.  i deliver the mail in the USA, so I have a fair amount of bending & lifting.

I returned to work at the 12 week mark & returned to my sporting activities at the same time.

I  didnt have enough sick leave or vacation time but it didnt matter, I wasnt going back early.  My hip/life is obviously more important than work !

    Good Luck biggrin

With a very manual job like yours, plus the bending and twisting, I would think 12 weeks would be a minimum amount of time off. Doing heavy work before that time, you could easily damage your bone healing, and do soft tissue damage, which can cause a lot of pain and take a long time to recover from. The longer you can take off, the better, when returning to such difficult work.

Hi I had a lateral THR on July 21st. I thought I was going back to work Nov 1 which would of been around 3 month mark. Much to my surprise he said I misunderstood him and said I would be off 6 months. Then I will do a gradual return to work over 2 months. As much as I think I am doing great I appreciate this time to get myself fully healed.

    Hi

Well for my 1st hip replacement l was know where near ready at 6 weeks and like you l get 6 months fulll pay and then 6 months half pay. I would take as long as you feel you need 10 weeks or more but what l ended up doing was getting my other hip done 8 weeks after the 1st and ended up taking the full 6 months as after l has recovered from both hips l found out both my knee's needed done so in august l had my 1sr knee replaced. So l had been off my work since november last year. I decided to have a break before l got my next knee done. I went back to work 4 weeks ago so l has been off nearly a year but let. me tell you l do a desk job and it is really hard on my hips. I am only working 2 days a week and could not do anymore than that. So dont feel pressured to go back 6 week after 1st hip l would take at least 3 months get used to yiur new hip before you start doing a manual job. Go back when u feel ready. Use as much of the paid time of as you need . Rushing back will do you no good.
