How long until citalopram leaves your system?

Posted , 11 users are following.

Hi, can you shed some light please?

I was on 10mg citalopram for roughly 3 months roughly but was taken off it due to serious side effects and allergic reaction. I weeks off completely around 5 weeks ago now and have been feeling pretty good and back to normal up until yesterday when I started to feel quite dizzy/nausea and body weakness. Is this the usual or should I not have any side effects now? Dr said allow 4-6 weeks but has anyone had these feelings for longer and have they come on after a few weeks of feeling good? Thanks in advance smile

      Hi Maria,

I am so so pleased for you. That's so good to hear.

It will only get better each day from here on.

I am back at the gym and my regular routine. Feeling close to wonderful with only a few very minor dizzy spells occasionally.

Thanks for your thoughts and for keeping in touch. I too feel it's really helped me aswell. It's been nice to have someone to chat to that turkey understands.

      Love me xx

Have just found this site as I am trying to give up 40mg Cit after 5 years. I knew it wouldn't be easy but never dreamt I would have such a hard time. Having read maria and your own experiences it's heartening to know others have made it through what is quite literally hell. If you read this maria I am in Dundee so it's nice to know a fellow Scot has made it. Wish me luck.

Maria..I saw some of your posts to Kris..I believe she was in OZ...I came off cit 3 months ago after reducing slowly over 6 months ( 20 to zero )

i still get the days where I am irrationally angry or worrying over nothing...I am not depressed ..but I am putting these symptoms down to fit withdrawal ...would you agree?

it seems never ending ...I coped with the added anxiety but being so edgy over nothing and worrying over silly things makes me wonder if after being off the tabs for over 12 weeks what is happening to my brain ..any advice would be most welcome

      thank you

Hi pat97152 and hi to you Maria!

I have been unable to log in for a long time now could really understand why!

Pat- it does take a very very long time for a lot of people to completely be side effect/withdrawal free from citalopram regardless of what profession practitioners may say. Each and everyone is different.

For me it was roughly 4 months until I felt 99-100% back to my old self.

      Keep going with this.

It will be worth it in the end smile

Hugs to you Maria- hope all is well xx

Hi hope alls well to alive been on 20mg citalopram for over a year started reducing it slowly over 2 months stopped around December 2014 I'm still getting the brain zaps and dizziness had a kind of dizzy moment today similiar to my very first anxiety attack but managed tiger through it which was good as I was at a meeting and the room was very small and thought oaf here go , however keeping calm and I can only guess that the worst must nearly over think it's all just timing stick with it though I'm determined not to go back on I'm trying 50mg of HTP and True Calm so hopeful all will be good in the end

      Keep well
