How long until citalopram leaves your system?

Hi, can you shed some light please?

I was on 10mg citalopram for roughly 3 months roughly but was taken off it due to serious side effects and allergic reaction. I weeks off completely around 5 weeks ago now and have been feeling pretty good and back to normal up until yesterday when I started to feel quite dizzy/nausea and body weakness. Is this the usual or should I not have any side effects now? Dr said allow 4-6 weeks but has anyone had these feelings for longer and have they come on after a few weeks of feeling good? Thanks in advance smile

I agree with Maria I have beeen off Citalopram since December and I have been thinking the old thoughts if you know what I mean. I have read up a lot on Citalopram withdrawals and one thing I did'nt realise was the brain compensates for the increased seratonin produced while on the drug and lowers it naturally. When we stop the Citalopram we are left with a deficit on the seratonin, which the brain needs time to compensate for, but this time to produce more due to the lack of chemical stimulant. Hang in there and I wish you well.

I'm happy for you Maria ...if you need the pills it's sensible to take them..believe me if I have a relapse I will go back on 10 mg too...

if  I'm honest I was happier on 10 mg than I am now..but I sleep better now ....
