    Hi

I had my hip replacement on 7th Dec. Kept the same dressing on until staples came out 14days later and then had no dressing. Not sure if this applies to every where.

Hi, I didn't have staples just sticky tapes as the wound was very deep and I had a Pico dressing on for a week (sucks gunk out of the wound). Then had a normal dressing on for another week (changed twice by nurse).

I was told not to remove my drerssing and it was in place, without a fresh one, until I went to have my staples removed 6 weeks later. By that time the dressing was filthy and I had had to keep it in place with scraps of sticky tape - not a pretty sight. Since then no dressing but the wound has healed wonderfully. Just wish my occasional groin pain would go AND I could stop walking like a penguin??

Mine will have been on about a month without anything being done to it.

Surgical tape covering. No discharge or gunk. Home visit nurse checks it for any discolor, swelling, etc. So far, so good.

    Hi Kel40

Had my RHR last June. My dressings dealt with exactly as yoursoon 2 weeks done by nurse after that no dressings. So you are on plan. For the healing and itching just put something cold over the scar ...I used a small cold bottle of water that I kept in the fridge.

Sounds like all is going to plan !!

Hi, about 2 weeks I think. I had clear plastic over the wound which I liked, because you could see that it was looking good, and also shower ok. I had disposable stitches,so nothing to remove.

Two weeks, dissolving stiches, no home nurse, took it off myself as instructed at two weeks. I was given a spare cover to replace if the original got dirty etc., But didn't need it.

Angie I can't believe that she did she put you into a shower 10 hours post op? What was she thinking?

I was allowed to shower the day after my THR - with a waterproof dressing.

Ok so you and Graham both were allowed showers within 24 hours. My blood pressure was low so a hot shower would of probably got me dizzy. My Doc had me use one of those waterproof dressings but discouraged a shower for 2 weeks.I could not stand it and showered a day early .The incision is looking good. The doctor said he liked to error on the side of safety in terms of incisional healing.

Good Morning Msky your surgeon seems to have got it right , after all what's the rush to shower so soon post op ,we have a 'enhanced recovery 'program but that's going too far , have a good day !

Hi Msky, I had a little shower in the hospital on day 2, before I came out. Not a long hot one though! I had clear plastic over the incision, so it was easy.

We all seem to get different advice, but I'm all for erring on the side of safety.
