How much walking?

Am I allowed to walk a bit? What's the rule? My mum has turned into Kathy bates from the film misery. I'm a week today post tvt and anterior repair. 37 with a 2 1/2 ur old.y mums been great don't get me wrong but won't let me out. She allowed me out today as I just sat in the car then sat down in the soft play then walked to car and back home org my mum and daughter. I've not lifted, been resting a lot and not doing anything much relly but can I walk round the shops? Or walk to the car/restaurant for lunch? Also I do still feel a slight bugler down there quite hard bit noticeable by sight anymor but can feel it. My mum thinks I've over done it. It I haven't done anything!! I just think it's not been tightened enough which consultant said he hadn't done it too tight as it would be uncomfortable. I guess I was hoping the bulge would've completely gone or is it to early/swelling still? Many thanks in advance

Hi Kelly. When did you have the surgery? You should not be doing much at all for two weeks post op, just walk around the house/garden very gently and sit down as soon as you feel tired, heavy or dragging down below. I was in hosp for 10 days in 1984! I know this doesn't happen now but then we had to do as we were told or take the consequences. ie, prolapse repair failure! When you have your post op you should ask consultant any questions you have as only he/she can tell if it's been successful. I'm sure matron will come on and give you more advice but you can go to the top of this page and click on Genitourinary Prolapse. It will take you to a page with lots of info if you click on the correct links. Take it easy and best wishes for your recovery, Poll. x

I would try walking around your house and yard first, then maybe walk to the corner and back, something very short. If you do that at home, if you need to lay down it is really easy. Not so easy if you are out and about. I wouldn't try anything while out that I wasn't very sure I could handle and had done at home.
At 2 weeks I wasn't up to recreational walking, I was just slowly increasing what I could do for myself (e.g. Get water and bus the glass instead of asking for help). When I was ready to try walking outside I went maybe 100 feet, realized how tiring it was and turned around and went back and laid down. I slowly worked my way up.
People are different. Maybe you can do a lot more than many other ladies could but I would still be cautious. its still early and while being swollen is normal, it's also really early and your repair can still be easily damaged. There's the saying "You don't have time to do it right but you do have time to do it twice?". I don't mean that in a snarky way, I just found it helped me to think about it that way.

Hi Kelly, hate to say it but I think your mum is right! Just having a two year old is bad enough! Sounds like you have really been doing a lot! More than me. I had mine done 5 weeks ago and am only just leaving the house the last week! I have a 4 and 6 year old. My mum has also been brilliant, tho annoying and has had kids staying at hers. It really is so exhausting and the bulge gets worse when not just in bed or on sofa. Make the most of it. It will be worth the resting eventually I'm hoping!!

Oh no thanks ladies. I'm one week post op. Just finding it hard to keep sitting or laying down. As I feel well in myself not tired or sore anymore. Hope I haven't done any damage but really didn't think I would do any harm walking a few steps to the car and a few more to a seat at soft play. I'll listen to mum but she's back to work next week so I'll be on my own with little one

Just try and take things steady that's all you can do.😁

NO lifting when your on your own with him. He can come up to you but don't bend or pick him up! I think you will be too busy anyway to be bored, just working out how to deal with him! lol

I don't know what A TVT is , however I have had both A recotoseal and A vaginal prolapse cystoseal repair here is my advice .I think you are supposed to take it easy for two week's activity as tolerated but no driving as you will tire easy . As my most recent was the vaginal prolapse repair in November and I am unfamiliar with your procedure as I had both internal and external stiches it took about A month for all the external swelling to go away . Take it easy and only do what you can tolerate I was not allowed any lifting or sexual activity for 12 week's .

I may of had this added as well along with the vaginal prolapse repair because my bladder had fallen out of place and it was painful and I was extremely incontnent anything from A few drop's to everything in my bladder emptying if I sat up or waited more then A couple hour's to use the bathroom . Since having the surgery my incontinence is I think safe to say is gone and so is the pain when I empty my bladder however I still do still have pelvic pain . I was so disgusted with my surgeon when I went for my 8 week check up I just wanted to know thing's where healing . She made A mess of my genital area and I am asking my dr to refer me to another because of the new pain I am having and I am concerned she may of damaged my other repair I had several year's back .
Thank you for telling me what this TVT is . I know that the OP probably has the same amount of stitchiching as I had and yes the swelling take's about A month to go away taking A warm bath will help with the discomfort and I think with the swelling . I think you are only allowed to put A couple inches of water in the tub or use A sitz bath if you have access to one .

This is normal at this stage Kelly. We all have this, it's very early days yet and the bulge is where you were stitched and will form strong scar tissue eventually. That's why you need to be careful for some time to come. The appearance will improve and should look normal when fully healed. I repeat, take things very easy and slowly for now and several weeks. See your GP if you're feeling depressed but it's normal after major surgery to feel a bit down at times. x

See my previous reply. It's too early yet to look normal Kelly. You have to be a Patient patient I'm afraid. Time will heal if you are!
