How much walking?

Am I allowed to walk a bit? What's the rule? My mum has turned into Kathy bates from the film misery. I'm a week today post tvt and anterior repair. 37 with a 2 1/2 ur old.y mums been great don't get me wrong but won't let me out. She allowed me out today as I just sat in the car then sat down in the soft play then walked to car and back home org my mum and daughter. I've not lifted, been resting a lot and not doing anything much relly but can I walk round the shops? Or walk to the car/restaurant for lunch? Also I do still feel a slight bugler down there quite hard bit noticeable by sight anymor but can feel it. My mum thinks I've over done it. It I haven't done anything!! I just think it's not been tightened enough which consultant said he hadn't done it too tight as it would be uncomfortable. I guess I was hoping the bulge would've completely gone or is it to early/swelling still? Many thanks in advance

I had exactly this done 16mths ago. I didn't find this forum until 1mth post-op so had little advice on what not to do prior. So I spent 1 day in bed after 2 nights in hospital. Then was up and about from then on. I travelled 3hrs in car as passenger to our farm when 1wk post-op. Went all around farm on 6 wheel gator. Didn't do any lifting. Had no idea about no bending. I went on here as had weird discharge that I couldn't work out if it was normal or not (at 1mth) post-op. Turns out was ecoli infection in bladder. So what you have only done so far is amazing! Just get little one to climb up onto your lap while you are seated. Make the most of Mum help. It will soon end & looking back you will be very grateful. I say sure walk to cafe etc. if you feel totally up to it. The bulge feeling is pure swelling. Remember it's major surgery. If you could see how the tape is put in even, then you will know the tissue trauma that causes. I think my repair is all good & urinary incontinence gone - thank goodness. Stop looking down there & just let it all heal. It's months till it will start resembling what you will look like.

I'm two weeks post op posterior and sling and I feel heavy pressure when I'm walking about too long

Yes but you had different repair. Kelly had ANTERIOR and sling. The repairs affect you post-op quite differently sometimes and especially if had anterior and posterior, and repair, and sling, etc. etc.

Yes it does to an extent, my hospital neighbour had anterior and sling we have become friends and have met up since surgery and are a great support to each other. She has been doing too much too soon she's realised that now as she's got heavy bleeding and odourous discharge but didn't express any pain, everyone is different. I also still have a grade 1 anterior prolapse so I'm not sure if this is related to the heaviness I feel along with the usual post op swelling.

I hope your Neighbour has. Even to the Dr. re. her heavy bleeding & nasty discharge?

Arh somebody above said "take a bath". Sorry but don't. It is not recommended until your Surgeon gives the ok at post-op check. You have lots of stitches down there and a bath can be a great source for infection to get in there. They only let people have a bath if they don't have a shower available. And then it's a quick in and out. Making stitches more soggy than they already are is not good.

Oh gosh as much as I would love a bath I was told 6 weeks no bathing or swimming!

      Hi Robyn,

Good to hear you are doing well and repairs good.

Agree it's not good to bath until consultant says as it can also depend on stitches used, don't want stitching disolving before repair healed; although think they use tougher stitched now.

If you are a week post op I have to agree with your mum. In fact you are lucky to have been allowed out. You will feel a bulge, that's normal and it will get worse probably around the 4th week so don't worry.

Oh no. Hope I haven't overdone it. I've been struck with a cold now so am bed resting and have no choice. I didn't realise about the bulge at all I guess I thought I'd wake up and it will be fine but it's not. Thank you again for your advice it's not appreciated. I'm just getting restless and anxious x

You won't have overdone it Kelly. So your mum has got her own way, you have to stay in bed 😂 You are so lucky to have someone to care for you and I think it would drive me mad if my mother fussed like that but put yourself in her shoes, if it was one of your children you would be the same. If you cold develops into a cough take some linctus such as codeine linctus or one of the cough medicines that stop you coughing too much. I won't be offended by your post. Read the 2nd from last sentence 😂 X

Ha ha ha sorry, obvious typo lol.

Yes she's got her way alright but I guess I'm accepting it's the right way as I actually feel better down there already, bulge wise. Thanks again x

Mum! You could end up having to have further surgery if you dont take care of yourself.I know it is tempting when you have a young child but long term not worth it. I am three months post op with a six year old and still need to rest . The stitches have not even dissolved yet but I had a slightly different op from you-rectocele, enterocele and sacro stitch
