    Hi y'all,

    (I don't know how I missed this thread -)

    First R THR March 16, 2015 at age 66, second L THR September 10, 2015 at now age 67 ...

    in denial since 2010 ....

Please do not regret that you haven't done it sooner ... I believe that timing is always right - for me, I had to be really bone-on-bone, so limited in my movements and in chronic pain before I made the decision ...

However, I will say now, don;t wait that long .... it is not getting better - not with injections - unless diagnosis is other than severe osteoartiritis ...

It has been a strain on the rest of my now ample body -

So interesting how some of you have to wait for a surgery date for such a long time ...

Sending love, healing and angel blessing to you all ...

    big warm hug

    renee

there is so much love and support here

I have enjoyed reading about your journey, especially as you have had

both hips done with months between. After my left hip I hoped it

would support my other one, I walked, I had therapies, I went to an

osteo I waited, but my world gradually got smaller as the pain in my

Other hip increased. I gave in, by this time worrying that bone on bone

would get worse. Consultant says my back pin is because my hip cannot

not support it. I have named my new hip my AUTUMN HIP..it will

arrive on 5th October. I am having to rest a lot. I can't take painkillers

      as they damaged my liver.

You are a kindred spirit if you're saying "Hi, y'all!"  I too, was in denial for a couple of years.  The pain wasn't that bad as long as I didn't try to do certain things (range of motion limited) and I walked with a limp.  I finally went to an orthopedic surgeon and saw the x-ray.  It was bone on bone. He told me I could wait, since I wasn't in a great deal of pain.  "It isn't going to get better, is it?" I asked, more or less rhetorically.  We know what his answer was.  I figured since I was unlikely to get any younger and the pain would no doubt get worse with time, I decided to go ahead with it.  In the weeks immediately after surgery I would ask myself, "Why in the world did I do this?!"  Now I'm up to week 5 and feeling better but Holy Moly what a difficult journey!

Do you have a time for your op yet. I think mine will be in the afternoon,

3ish. I have decided to leave the iPad at home, instead I am going

to listen to music as I read somewhere that it helps healing.

i have same hospital, same surgeon here in the

Algarve as last time. Where will you be getting your a

      AUTUMN HIP?

      hello cathie

yes had my pre assessment today.ecg, blood tests urine tests etc and spoke to physio in advance.  yes its getting nearer now but feel a bit better as this is my second hip the first was 1st june and going to have the epidural too. Have you discussed this yet?

They also gave me all the scrub wash stuff to use before the operation and some special ointment I have to put up my nose three times a day

5 days prior to operation (didnt have that last time) . apparently they have just started doing it.  helps prevent infections etc.

so next step is turning up on monday 5th october!!  my operation should be early afternoon hopefully.

let me know how you get on monday.

I am also afternoon. I have decided that

I am not taking the iPad into

      hospital.

Are you in any pain? I could not think about

flying anywhere, getting in the car is painful

      enough.

      Hi maggie,

5th Octobet 8am. My first THR on the left side.  So that is 3 of us the same day smile

Just back from holiday so not been here much as the idea was to put it to the back of my mind lol Well time has flown, now the nerves have set in.

I am 61, youngest one in my family to have a THR.  Carried too much weight for too many years, sigh.  Dropped most of it now thankfully, hope that gives me a better start. smile

Wishing you both a troubke free op and a speedy recovery. X

    Welcome to our youngest hippy,

age 15 years, see her note on her own

discussion. I am sure one of us will be

    able to help.

Did I see a note from a 15 year old who had

had hip operation recently? I welcomed her

as a response. Now the note seem to have vanished.

do we have a minimum age to participate or could it be

    some other reason,maybe parental permission.

    any ideas?
