How positive outlook on life helps recovery from illness

I came across this article that talks about changes that terrible disease brings into our lives and how positive attitude makes a difference. While it is not about PMR, it is just as applicable to any of us. It talks about struggle to adopt to new normal, and how to become actively involve in healing process rather then passive patient. It talks about the power of determination to do our best to not give in, in spite of debilitation illness..

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did...

I haven't read the book.
I tend to downplay it a bit but the mental journey can be as difficult as the physical - they are of course connected.
IMHO being positive is more than half the battle. Easier said than done sometimes.
And I have a very empathetic GP who understands the value of objective reassurance.

nick67069, I don't think the changes are an improvement. I do the forum on my cellphone and this new format is not cellphone friendly at all!

Of all the changes they have made in the last 8 years this is far and away the nastiest. Not impressed.

I can imagine - but if it is any consolation, it isn't a lot better on a computer
It's far too big - you can only see one post at a time, the conversation is now TOTALLY lost.

When I logged in this evening ( in Japan), I noticed first wild colors and font too large... I wonder who is designing this web site? I also wish they have a release notes that explane changes, so we dont have to discover them on our own.

EileenH, I use my cellphone all the time, this new format is terrible on a cellphone. I not longer have a
computer my wife has a laptop, which I don't like. I also have a tablet, will have to try it. It is amazing how many improvement make things more difficult.
Al the price of progress! 🙂

And yes - the colours are hideous!!!!

Trying it on the tablet, funny if it works better on the tablet in some ways I would not have to take my glasses off. The first problem is because it does not
wrap there is no way to get control of the cursor. Appears they broke that on the cellphone also, isn't that great so much for user-friendly!

And what do we need more than anything else? An edit facility. Have we got it???? Doesn't look like it!

I thought there wa a problem with the website. But if this is a permanent change it's certainly going to be difficult for many of us. I had planned to catch up this evening (still using hubby's computer) and I really can't as my eyes are getting so strained from looking at this glaring screen. Maybe if the letters weren't so skinny?

Thanks to everyone who's provided feedback on the new design so far and we ask for you to bear with us while we figure out some teething issues with the new look.
We've looked over the points that you've raised and agree there are areas we can improve the look and feel of the forums.
We're currently compiling a list of changes based on your feedback and will try to get fixes out as soon as possible.
Currently the main complaints appear to be;
* The indentation of replies - particularly on mobile
* The colours are too much
* The forums in general is too bright
* The username is too small - especially compared to the avatar
We've created a thread in General to compile feedback in one place, so if you have any other feedback, please leave it for us here: https://patient.info/forums/discuss/patient-s-new-look-feedback-604108

@EileenH - to respond to your point about an edit facility specifically - we have looked into adding an edit function into the site, but have realised that it's quite a complex task to do properly. The alerts that get sent to users would have to be changed, and there's also the question of what happens if a post is edited after being approved by moderation. I want to assure you that we are looking into it, and it is on our radar, but will take a while to deliver properly.
Would you say that the main reason users want an edit function is to correct spelling errors and typos?

Yes - can't you allow 10 minutes after it is posted or something? I know the argument is you should be able to see it in the original box - but you know as well as I do that that isn't the case!!!! Especially since this forum doesn't include spellcheck any more which would be a good start (it did in pre-history didn't it? Or am I hallucinating?).
I know a lot of people write their post in Word and then copy and paste - I for one spend enough time here without going to that effort

The other thing that would be LOVELY is a warning a post is about to be captured for moderation. I have posted several time where it got snaffled for no apparent reason - knowing what you have just done wrong would help. As would being notified yourself when a moderated post has been released.

A window of 'edit time' is one possible solution we're looking into. We will hopefully be fixing the lack of spell checker soon too.
As for a pre-moderation warning, the problem with that is that it would effectively guide spammers and scammers how to get their posts through our moderation net - allowing them to exploit our users. It's a complex issue which we are working on, hopefully we can come up with a way to allow our trusted users more freedom to post whatever they like without allowing scammers through the door.

Wouldn't the filter catch anything questonable in an edited version? Also I don't think as much as ten minutes is needed. I personally, if I'm going to catch a typo, usually see it the moment I've posted, and am scanning the post as it appears. If I miss it at that point, well, too bad!

I missed my forum messages and wondered why I was not getting them until by accident today I happened to look in the junk box and low and behold there were all my missing messages all twenty or so of them. I must make sure now that I can get them back into my inbox.
I agree with all of of the above messages, and wonder why things that work well have to change, when many times it's not for the better!
Thanks for an excellent forum where one can discuss issues with others who know what and why we don't always feel 100 % . Happy to learn you are not alone out there.
Good luck fine tuning your site.
