I am week 6 , hip revision and desperate to get in the bath . I am using crutches and unfortunately having very slow recovery, really because of multiple operation on the hip. I am not worried just want a bath . 😊

Hi crisps I am the same as you 6 wks post op and recovery slow I feel. I was doing so well first 3 wks but last 3 have had bad groin pain on other side rolleyes I also would love to have a bath. I asked my physio at the doctors surgery and he said wait til at least 6 wks and if I feel I can get in and out go ahead.... so really I think it's whether you feel confident about it ? I,m tempted but worried I'll not be able to get out and I'll be stuck haha x

Hi Angel:  I am 10 day out.  I am still on my walker, but able to get around. I shower by myself and although it is a pain in the butt wrapping the plastic it makes me feel fresher for the day.  I still have some thigh pain and pain in my butt.  I am finding it harder to be patient because whether I am sitting or laying down my butt is in contact with the chair or bed and I am so sick of the pressure I could just scream!  I start PT today and hopefully it will be an advancement on how much I can do.

I am lucky in that my tub has an edge on it, so I sit on the edge and then swing both legs in before I stand up.  I'm not a bath person (I get too hot in about two minutes), so I just use my bath to take my shower.

Angel is correct. It's not so much about the healing (although you should wait until the scar is well  healed) but about the risk of not being able to get out again or of falling while you do. If you were on the floor, could you get up again without help? If not, without a bath lift, the answer is obvious - you can't manage one!

To be honest I had a really first class recovery, and I wouldn't have tried it at six weeks..... Too risky

I understand your situation. I am 2 weeks post THR and I've gotten 2 showers but they wrap my hip in plastic so it remains dry! I have no stitches, just steri-strips so I don't understand why I can't get it wet.

I will never try to get a tub bath. To risky imo but showers are much safer I feel.

I have had both hips replaced though.

    Take care.

Oh I could never live without the occasional "dump an entire bottle of bubbles in the bath" and soak with a good read and a glass of wine. Although I do admit that I once did this, and turned the Jacuzzi on and was so relaxed I dozed... Waking to find the entire bathroom filled with bubbles!

I think it was around 3 months before I finally ventured into the bath,, I got in just fine but was really worried when I discovered I couldnt get out.. I was by myself tho and so finally after much stress and about 10 minutes i managed to get out. I waited for another month before trying again.

I love baths and it was hard to wait after my revision. I think it was about 3 months before I tried and it was a little scary. When you do try, please make sure someone is home with you. I'm still very cautious when going in and out for a bath or shower. Good luck in your recovery.

I love having baths but I stuck with showers for the first 3 months. I actually found it quite tricky getting out of the bath. (Though it would be easier if you have those grab handles to cling onto.)

I think if you are still on 90° restrictions getting out will be hard.

    All the best.
