How to stop worrying about health so much???

I’ve been staying with family during the holidays.  Today, my 12-year-old nephew asked me seriously if I am depressed.  We had been on an outing this morning to eat breakfast and go ice skating, which I enjoyed.  But I feel like everything is an effort now.  I can’t enjoy anything as much as I’d like for worrying about my health.  I’m completely sick of doctors, of being overweight, of feeling down all the time.  Exercising and improving diet help, but I have a long way to go.  My BMI is in the obese range now and I worry all the time about getting back to a normal weight.  Everything scares me, even though my A1C tested as normal (not even prediabetic), I am paranoid about what I eat.  I am preoccupied by it all the time.  My gyn and her staff completely botched up reporting some lab results after having made several other mistakes (long story) and now I don’t trust them.  I feel as though it is all on me to get a grip on this health and peri anxiety while at the same time improving my health,  I am always afraid of being diagnosed with something terrible, even though I am doing a lot to make my life better and have lost 5 pounds already.

I am thinking seriously about going to a doctor who can recommend whether an anti-anxiety or antidepressant drug might help me.

Liz, I had to get rid of the TV it was giving me anxiety and I was coming up with all kinds of diseases that I had such that my doctor said "stop being a hypochondriac." I, too, worried about my weight because I was overweight I was also obese, but fortunately I lost it all and I'm back to my old self again and just like you I was worried about everything but the best recommendation I can give you is that you take a multivitamin and vitamin D3 and if you can get yourself on some kind of antidepressant or anti-anxiety medicine it will help. Also do not let them give you Paxil or Zoloft, hopefully they'll give you something else and you can be on your way to having a better quality of life. Hope this help.

Sochima, thanks for the reassurance regarding weight.  This really gives me hope.  I am very tall and was always slim when I was young, as well as being very active.  I will remember about the Paxil and Zoloft, too!

      Liz,

Totally understand how you are feeling. I agree with Sochima aside from avoiding Paxil or Zoloft. Everyone is different and what may cause one to have side effects doesn't affect another quite the same. I did use Zoloft for roughly 9-12 months a few years ago during a particularly rough patch (lost a loved one) and it did help me very well. So keep an open mind and know that while this is really an ugly phase, it does pass. You have to try different things to see what is right for you. Be kind to your self.

Thanks, Annie.  I’m glad to hear that the Zoloft helped you.  Definitely need to remember to be kind to myself, too.  I am very hard on myself.  It’s how I was raised and so difficult to overcome.  💕

Hi Sochima. How many units of vit D do you take? I am taking 4000 right now, but I wonder if that's enough

I take 6,000 IU of vitamin d3, but not every day just like 3 times a week. Other days I take 2,000 IU's. Thus so far everyone around me can be sick but me. Not catching anyone's cold or flu is great. Happy New Year to you 2chr!

my doctor prescribed Ratinidine 150mg for anxiety but im scared to take it. are you familiriar with this med? I stopped watching TV also for a while now.

Yes, I'm familiar with ranitidine, it's mostly used for heartburn, acid reflux, etc. I was given zantac in the same class of drugs from what I thought was anxiety it's actually a stomach reflux where I thought I could breathe. It worked and just recently was given a ppi for the same issue. When I feel it coming on, I end up coughing and that seems to help but zantac may work better. Hope this helps.

I’d be careful with Zantac. It made my liver enzymes sky rocket.

thank you for letting me know☺ just had my blood work done couple days before christmas and everything came back normal except low vitamin D..i take Zantac as needed, not everyday.

How are you doing? have a happy and healthy new year!

Take the Zantac or Ranitidine when you feel an anxiety attack come on and see if that helps. It's what worked for me. If you have high liver enzymes it means you have something going on with your liver, otherwise, it shouldn't be a problem. I took it for about 2-3 years, and never had an elevated liver enzyme issue. But of course, everyone is different. But everything came back okay then you're not being affected by it. Happy New Year and God Bless.
