Ask to try oestradiol transdermal patches, and progestogen as a separate tablet.  Combined oral hrt can be problematic.

Perhaps because it goes through the liver and also depends on digestion.  If you read studies about both combined oral and oestradiol transdermal hrt, there are negatives about the combined oral while oestradiol transdermal is described as having the least problems, if any, because it is absorbed through the skin.

I suggest you also read 'The Wisdom of Menopause', wherein the author who is a well known menopause specialist with years of experience with women and menopause, and recommends oestradiol transdermal above all others.

I have been happily using it for 26 years (both implanted pellets and patches, as well as daily gel (not all at once), and vaginal pessaries and cream) without any of the problems that women describe with oral oestrogen.  I also use a small amount of oral progesterone/progestogen to deactivate possible remaining endometriosis, only because it is not available transdermal.  I don't intend to go off it.

I have read The Wisdom of Menopause but I've just mentioned your post to a friend who is a Urogynaecologist and he has said there isn't any real evidence to prove the patch and tablet used separately is more benificial.

My urogynaecologist (female) agrees with the studies on each and says it is.

I find it very strange that drs in the UK still prescribe oral combined hrt as well as Premarin.

All doctors will disagree about certain things. It would be sad if they didn't. I take Premarin, what is strange about that drug?

You said you read The Wisdom of Menopause - it describes it all in there.  It is not bio-identical like oestradiol is.  It is synthesised from pregnant mare's urine.  It was the one used in the WHI study, which was stopped because of the health issues it was causing the women who were participating in the study.

If you are knowledgeable about hrt, you would not need to ask these questions.  It is old and common knowledge.

I didn't agree with a lot of the book and it was written by an American doctor. I know exactly what Premarin is made from. I used to take Hormonin that was the same. I only wanted your take on Premarin because I think it's unfair to criticise these drugs when women in the UK are regularly prescribed them and are told exactly what they contain. If they aren't to,d by their GP then the written information that comes with it explains it all. I can only presume you are in the US as most urogynaecologists prefer to recommend books and literature written by professionals in the UK.

Dash it - I mentioned a dr's name.  Will have to wait to see if it passes, because it is too much to write again.

Yes the moderator does remove names. I doubt it will be passed. It's better to send by private messaging. They also remove posts that are not associated with the original question which is why I've sent a PM to Rhino

Sorry to jump on your post earlier on Jackosad

I had great sucess with Tiberlone in treating all symptoms, mood lifted and sadness/depression also went within a couple of weeks. I am gutted that I may have to give it up as it appears to be causing bleeding on ocassion. If you search Livial - Tiberlone - Xyvion (Australia) you can see how tremendously it has (and is) helping others. Good luck.
