HSV-2 only: Who else, and how often do you have outbreaks?

Posted , 68 users are following.

Thought it would be good to have a discussion thread just for those with IgG/swab-confirmed HSV-2 (so not presumed cases).

For personal "research" purposes, lol, I'm also very interested to know:

1. How long you've had it.

2. How often do you have outbreaks.

3. Did you have a history of cold sores (even if only as a child) before you acquired HSV-2.

Other personal experiences regarding HSV-2 welcome. Cheers!

    1. I was diagnosed through type specific blood testing recently.

    2. I've never had an outbreak that I know of - maybe a UTI was in the past, maybe a bad yeast infection was...I don't know. I haven't even talked to my doctor yet.

    3. I've had a few cold sores in my 20's-30's but have been married and faithful for 35 years. I've been told most likely my husband transmitted it to me. He has a history of strip club oral sex.

Was the test for IgM or IgG antibodies, and what were your scores? No symptoms ever and only a blood test to go on is suspect when it comes to herpes, especially if you already carry HSV1, which can cross-react with HSV2 in certain test kits. If your husband received only oral sex, the most he'd likely get is potentially HSV1, which you already have.

I don't know what he received - he's not been monogamous for sure.

The blood tests were for both. IgG was over 13 for 1 and 5.5 for 2

Also if the prostitute had just given oral sex to someone with HSV2 she could have easily passed it directly. Just because it's type 1 doesn't mean it's only in your mouth. Type 2 can be transmitted orally.

HSV2 isn't so common orally and rarely ever sheds when oral. Least infectious combination of the lot.

Unfortunately I only know about what I've been told. Even if I was the carrier - he would most likely after 35 years test positive to both as well wouldn't he?

I agree that an IgM test can show a false positive for type 2 when you only have type 1. But from what I've been told and IgG is accurate.

We are in the middle of ending our marriage so I don't even speak to him. I don't know if he's ever been tested for anything.

Thank you. I just found out on Friday and I see my doctor on Monday next week for an exam and other testing. I'll let you know what comes out of it!

I have some questions for you...

1.how frequent are your outbreaks ?

    2. What are your triggers?

    3.Are you currently on antivirals?

4.What are some things you take to prevent outbreaks?

    5. What kind of foods do you eat to maintain a strong immune system?

I knows those are a lot of questions but I just want to know these things.
