HSV-2 only: Who else, and how often do you have outbreaks?
Posted , 68 users are following.
Thought it would be good to have a discussion thread just for those with IgG/swab-confirmed HSV-2 (so not presumed cases).
For personal "research" purposes, lol, I'm also very interested to know:
1. How long you've had it.
2. How often do you have outbreaks.
3. Did you have a history of cold sores (even if only as a child) before you acquired HSV-2.
Other personal experiences regarding HSV-2 welcome. Cheers!

I got it 2 and a half years ago on my trip to Greece and though swab test show HSV-2 but it attacks me above belly on my back, right arm and left palm almost same spots every time. It is called oral HSV-2. Never on genitals. Very rare (about 2.5% of all HSV2 cases).
Frequency depends on how frequent I have sex as it is directly related. Once or twice a week would be okay but more frequencies (5+ a week) most likely bring about the attack. I think it makes my immune system exhausted and unable to supress the damn virus. On average the attack for me is once every 2 to 3 months but if I limit my sex frequency I can be attack free for 6+ months.
By now I know when it is coming 2-3 days before any sore is about to appear. This past week for ezample I felt pain on my left arm's skin for example then I knew an attack is coming on my left palm so I started 1000 mg Vatrex twice a day (much more than what they recommend for repeat attacks but who cares as their low recommended dosage does not work on me). The med supressed the damn virus from multiplying and my immiune system killed whatever was left activated. Very little discomfort on my left palm compare to before (severe sores I used to get) as a result of this early intake of Valtrex and cooperation between Valtrex and my immune system.

I'm seeing my doctor next week. I only know about the IgG blood test. In my thoughts I've never had an outbreak. I'll update when I talk with him.

At first, there were only 2 pimples and now it became too many and too painful I couldn’t walk.
I don’t understand what these antiviral med actually do or they are just too lazy to fight with the lovely Herpes
I broke up with my first BF 4 months ago, and until now he is the only one I slept with. I’m really suprised I didn’t have any outbreak since Sept -2017
And now my immune system decided to take a few days off, that’s maybe the reason why my first outbreak has to wait for so long
Please tell me these pain will go away!

"When my symptoms started, I thought I had a yeast infection. The following day, I had a swollen lymph node in my neck behind my ear. A couple days later, I felt stinging on my labia while showering, which I attributed to ingrown hairs. Later, I noticed bleeding and small ulcers. They began with dull pain and tingling, then my entire genital area was swollen and red. I haven’t noticed ulcers since my first outbreak, but I’ve had an outbreak every month like clockwork.
"On the day I noticed ulcers during my first outbreak, I called my ob-gyn, who couldn’t see me for a week. In the meantime, I went to an urgent care clinic, and the doctor there diagnosed me after one look, but I knew enough to ask for a culture. I specifically asked that they perform a type test. Meanwhile, I went to the ob-gyn appointment for a second opinion and got a blood test there. A few days later, the urgent care clinic called and said my culture came back positive for type 2. But when I went to pick up the physical results, a different doctor told me somewhat sheepishly that they hadn’t actually typed the culture. She told me it ‘didn’t matter’ what type I had. My blood test from the ob-gyn’s office came back negative for both HSV-1 and HSV-2. A follow-up blood test came back clearly positive for type 1 and negative for type 2. I saw an infectious disease specialist because I wanted to know why I’d initially tested negative for type 1 when I’ve had oral herpes since I was a kid. She said blood tests are unreliable and the most accurate diagnosis tool is a culture. You can only do a culture with a lesion but I haven’t had another lesion since then. Recently I went to a doctor who did a full examination, the first time a doctor had done that since I was diagnosed. She was kind and informative, and discussed adjusting my prescription since I was having recurrent outbreaks so frequently. It was such a relief to be treated like a human being."

Good Morning Everyone,
?I was diagnose with HSV 1 & HSV 2 on January 18th, 2018 (What a way to enter the year
bummer). The day I found out it felt like the end of my world, I didn't have much Knowledge of the STI but just hearing the world broke me down, made me feel dirty and angry at the person who gave it to me (Which I have no Idea who could it be). I am a 23 year old female trying to learn more about this infection and how to cope with it since its not so easy
. I've only been with 3 guys whom I have had long serious relationship with except for 1 (guy 1: 3years guy 2:4year years guy 3:a childhood friend for over 15years and whom I had a one night stand with about 2 years ago) Every since I have become sexually active I have always been on top of health especially with getting STD screening every year with my pap smear and especially after moving on to another person. I've never came out positive for any STD but became positive with an STI, Apparently in the US herpes isn't added to our STD screening since its not life threaten so my doctor says so I never had it done, only reason I had it done this year was because my pap smear came back abnormal for two years straight and my doctor thought it could of been cervical cancer so I had a biopsy and a colonoscopy done and while waiting on my results on that I became very worried and started wondering what other reasons it could be and on my research I came across herpes so I was up for my annual physical so I told my doctor to do me a blood work on every STD and STI. After 7 long days of waiting I got a call from my doctor that I needed to go in; So I went in and my doctor told me all my STDs & most of my STIs came back negative except for HSV1/2, I had so little knowledge that I broke down crying, my doctor was such a coldhearted person breaking the new to me and telling me how 80% of Americans have it and that its not harmful but told me to use protection and if I'm having an outbreak not to have contact with people and to wash my hands everytime I touch doorknobs and anything in contact with other peoples germs (it made no sense to me, she acted as if I was dirty or something) that made me feel worse. My index number were HSV 1 - 41.90 and HSV 2 - 2.70 , As I have done my research I read about the low score on HSV 2 can be a false positive so I have to wait 6 months to get retested to see if it was a false positive, the test that was use to get my results was HSV 1 IGG, AB HerpeSelect / HSV 2 IGG - Quest. I haven't got any outbreak, I don't even know how it should look, online there's so many different imagines and I haven't seen any of those on myself, I have notice a few bumps on my private part but I see it more when I shave and some of the one I see is due to ingrown hair. I also have read that with HSV 1 you can get cold sores or fever blister around the lips , I have never gotten a cold sore or fever blister in in my life. As I try to recall if I ever experienced an outbreak I can only recall of a time after I had the one night stand with my childhood friend after a few days I felt tingly in my vagina so I went to the doctor and was told it could be a BV so I was done a swab and ask for a urine sample to see if it was any STD and told it was nothing and since the tingly and itchiness went away we didn't bother to do any other test. Now two years later I turn up with this

Hey, everything is going to be okay. The first few days is really hard, but it gets better. When i found out i cried my eyes out for days, i isolated myself from all my friends and family, i even left my job that’s how depress i became , since then all i do is stay in bed to myself, now I’ve started applying for jobs again & i try to go out for some fresh air day a week. That new affected me so much and still is but reading everyone’s experience on here & doing my own research I’m starting to understand a bit more of what i have & how not to let it take over my life. It’s true what doctors say, the infection isn’t the problem, our mental stage is when we become aware of it
. What test was done for you to get a confirmation that it’s herpes ?
