It's really good to find this thread. I haven't been able to find to much info but I will tell you my experience. I have had HSV2 for almost 30 years and it has shown up on multiple sites on my body (finger, bum, leg, etc.) About 1 1/2 yrs ago, I had a new site appear on the base of my spine. Not long after that I started having difficulty walking. I thought I'd pulled some muscles but it got worse. My legs became stiff especially my left leg. Also, overnight it felt like I had no muscle in my legs. They would shake and have difficulty going downstairs. I never made the connection between the HSV2 & these problems. Last summer, I had another episode but this time I had a couple of urinary accidents that were upsetting and my left leg felt like I couldn't move it. At the hospital, I was diagnosed with myelits and hsv radiculopathy. If there is enough inflammation in the area around the spine, the nerves get squeezed off. The only way I've been able to stop having radiculopathy is by taking valtrex everyday. I also use duloxetine to lessen the nerve pain that is still occurring. I didn't believe that valtrex would actually lessen the radiculopathy but over months it has. I hope this helps because I know that there isn't much on the web about people's experience with this.

I have nearly the same exact story. I made the connection between leg pain and HSV2 after a corticosteroid inj in my hip for an ear infection caused extreme back and leg pain followed by a flare up of HSV2 with vesicles at the base of my spine. That had never happened before. It turned into meningitis. Acyclovir took care of everything but severe leg pain came back about a week later. Another flareup with leg pain 3 weeks later. Again acyclovir made the flareup and leg pain go away. It happened again about another 2 months later and I found a Dr. who believed me and I have stayed on acyclovir now for 11 months. I feel almost normal now. Some memory loss and loss of dexterity and dizziness. We don't really have a long term plan yet and my GP Dr. did send me to see a neurologist. After waiting for 10 months for an appointment, he told me that viruses can not cause radiculopathy. He said absolutely my leg pain is not related to HSV2. My MRI shows the sacral swelling and was diagnosed as sacroiliitis. It is the HSV2 that causes the swelling and it responds, thank God, to acyclovir. It is not a coincidence. I hope this helps too. I agree, there is not much on the web about this and some Dr's., especially specialists, have a very narrow field of knowledge.

I take antivirals for suppression of herpes, it does not help with my neuropathy. I think it has made it worse! But everybody is different.
