Hyperthyroidism

I was just diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism Thyroiditis 30 days ago. My TSH started at .02 and is now .01. I am waiting to see an Endocrinologist. I have severe shortness of breathe. Is this normal? I believe I am early on in the diagnosis but any insight would be helpful. What treatment works best?

I get dizziness from Menieres that is never fun. My shortness of breathe is the worst symptom I have so far except I am always hungry. Has the medicine helped?

I have Graves disease and was fortunate that I did not have to be on a high dose of antithyroid meds. I was put on 10 mg of Methimazole (same as Carbizamole in the UK). I think people who have to take higher dosages, i.e. 20 to 40 mg feel side effects more. However, after being on this medication for 2 years, although it lowered my excessive thyroid hormones, it did not normalize my TSH which remained at less than 0.001 for those two years until I did some research and found some supplements that I added to my treatment program. Then my doc was able to slowly lower my meds dosage a little at a time every time I saw him. I am happy to say I am off meds in remission since April of this year. I was diagnosed in 2007 and since 2009 was on lowered dosages. My last dose was 2.5 mg 3 times a week. So if your Endo's treatment is like mine, he or she will do testing to determine the cause of your excessive thyroid hormones. I had tests including blood tests for antibodies as well as thyroid levels, a radioactive uptake test, and a thyroid ultrasound. She immediatley put me on 10 mg of Propranolol to regulate the heart rate while I waited for the rest of the tests to be done. I did not require Propranolol very much after I was put on meds. I found that most hyperthyroid patients are deficient in vitamins (especially vitamin D which is very important for good thyroid functioning, magnesium and Carnitine. I was tested for them at my request and found to be deficient in all of them. Vitamin D especially is very important for good thyroid functioning. When I added them my results started to improve. Most docs either don't know this or don't think it is important. It is not part of their medical training but it sure made a difference in my case and other people I know. Even if you are started on a higher dose of antithyroid meds, you can improve faster and have dosages lowered more frequently if you add supplements you are deficient in.
