Don't be scared, I was for my husband's op but things are fine tuned these days i am told, and they are right.   no catheter, no compression stockings and up walking as soon as possible.  I was the most anxious, as can be seen from other posts by me, but really my husband is much better since the op than before and i myself am less worried now because i can see him improving week by week.

Vanessa, when is your operation date?

My operation is booked for tomorrow, and I feel just the same as you. I don't think we would be normal if we were not worried about it.

The combination of dread and looking forward to it is really quite unique isn't it!!!!

I am not sure if you are having your operation this week / or in the near future, but I do know you will have the wonderful support and care of everyone here.

I am not sure how I would have managed without them in my darkest moments.

We will be new women after this, and the future will be much brighter than it is now! Better to be in pain and recovering or just in pain forever and ever with no end in sight.

    Big hugs!

Rose & vanessa, believe me i was so scared they kept asking me if it was my signature i was shaking so much i hardly recognised it.  But from some one who is nearlly 3 weeks in, i have a life, ok telling you both now first week is hell, pain is totally different to now, sleep first week is not good so catch up during the day, just rest it out, second week all of a sudden everything clicks and every day you find you can do something new.  You will be a new person good luck, just do what your told, take all the painkillers you are given, listen to your physio and your new life starts tomorrow. Lots of love to you both.xxxxx

Hi Vanessa....I am new to this site and you are my first response. Your post sounds just like how i was feeling two weeks ago. I have needed a hip for ten years and have been on numberous prescribed meds and boat loads of tylenol. As i was 40 when they said i needed a new left hip i have been stalling and stalling...mostly out of absolute fear. So I understand completely. That being said...i am now 12 days post op and am stunned at how amazing i feel. I have more mobility now then i have had in the last 5 years and no pain. I stopped pain pills four days ago and am using one cane. Its all happend so quickly and without too much drama that its hard to believe i have a new hip.

I am glad that i waited untill i felt i was ready and stunned at the level of recovery at this point. I had an excellent Dr. whom i waited a year and half to see. Knowing what i know now...i would absolutly do it again!!
