HELP please! I am 4 weeks post op after having surgery for carpal tunnel release, tendon release and removal of inflamed tissue. As i sit here in tears with the pain again i don`t know what to do with myself, i have been in pain since May and it is now worse than ever. No pain relief touches or takes the edge off of it...can anyone please suggest something???

What are you taking at the momet and what doesypour GP say?

I was taking codiene but because i was on it for so long it wasn`t doing anything so i went back to GP she prescribed Tramadol it made me feel so ill so i stopped taking it....

Does she know about that so could try something else such as gabapentin. Instead of straight codiene ask her to prescribe co-codamol, a mixture of paracetamol and codeine - the former makes the latter more effective.

The hospital had me take Ibuprofen and then 3hrs later co-codemol, then 3hrs after that Ibuprofen again and so on, fortunatly worked for me. She may have a better idea.

If pain not getting better could be an infection so will need antibiotics.

Need to mention it at your follow up appointment and ask them to help if still no better.

Hi I was taking co codamol and ibuphrophen but I wasn't getting any relief at all worse throughout the night. My physio told me that those type of pain killers does not work for nerve pain so went bk to gp and he prescribed a something different that helped. Go bk to gp

Can you straighten your fingers? Have you got most of your movement back? Hand still swollen? I was in pain like that, and it turns out I had developed CRPS, and needed physio to sort it out. I would definitely call them.

So sorry to hear that.  I think you definately need to go back to your GP or your surgeon so they can provide the appropriate help.

Hi guys thank you so much for all the replies and support....I have been back to physio today and she had me see a specialist hand person who is sure that i have CRPS as you mentioned suzanne1709. I then went to GP and am now taking Gabapentine,  i can`t take anti inflammatories due to having a stomach ulcer last year so hopefully now it will settle. Now for those of you that have taken Gabapentine i need your help...I was told to take one today, two tomorrow and then three everyday after that but i have taken one at around 1 this afternoon and i am still feeling like i`ve had one to many and it`s now 6.45 is this normal please???

    Connie.

I take it for Epilepsy and it took a few days for this feeling to go away.

The NHS Choices website says "If you feel that the medicine is making you unwell or you do not think it is working, then talk to your prescriber"

Sorry to hear you have CRPS too. Physio really helped me, I kept doing all the exercises at home and saw such a huge improvement. Really painful at first but once you have done them it feels so much better. I then started to go to Aquafit which worked miracles, after one session my hand went fully straight! Hopefully you will see an improvement. Good luck x

I feel so bad for you. I am 9 months post-op and I cry at sometime every day. I have not found anything that works. I tried acupuncture and reflexology with no resutls. If it just didn't work, I could live with that but it's worse than it was before surgery. Hopefully, yours will improve with time.

After reading through the other responses, I have to say that I was prescribed gabapentin also. I'm a librarian and it made me so sleepy and goofy at work, I stopped taking it. My doctor gave me a script for a 9 months supply which made me wonder if he expected me to take it the rest of my life.

OMG 9 months supply!!!! I hate this feeling and i`ve only taken 1 300mg pill! If the feeling doesn`t go after a couple of days there is no way i can stay on them i need to get back to work!

It is more likely because in the same way it has to be increased in stages  it has to be reduced in a staged manner

Add to that it could be the average length of course they expected from what they had read.
