I can't take it anymore!! Perimenopause horrible..HELP!

Posted , 336 users are following.

I am 48 years old, stay at home mom with two children.  They are in school, I try to keep myself very busy.  I have had OCD and anxiety, I have been fighting it for years. But, now the Perimenopause is really terrible..depressed, mood swings, tension headaches, dry and itchy skin.

I have spoken to my sisters who are all past Menopause, they tell me their stories but I just cannot believe that hormones can cause all this havock.  I do not feel myself at all, my PMS is worse and the week of my period I actually feel like I have a disease and I am dying.  Feel like I am going crazy!! Please tell me if this is normal to feel this way at this time, because I am obsessing and cannot get my mind off of it.  Need Help!!!!

You are not alone. I have never felt so afraid. Stomach bloated and burning, can't eat much, short of breath (especially after eating), weight loss due to eating less, chest pressure, tightness of oesophagus, abdominal pain due to gas, sleep disturbance and more. Anxiety is through the roof. Keep thinking there's more to it. Am glad I found this forum so I know others experience this due to perimenopause. Why don't Doctors recognise these symptoms as perimenopause? If anyone knows of any relief for the bloat and heartburn I'd be grateful try it. I think the heartburn is causing the breathing issues and sleep apnea. I can't get out and about to do my usual activities. It's debilitating.

Omg!!!! I could have written this myself. My stomach bloating is so bad that this last two weeks im barely able to function. Like you im losing weight again and I barely want to get out of bed. Been given20mg of omeprazole for acid but no improvement as yet. Im on low dose AD mirtazapine asvthe higher dose caused weight gain but it did help with anxiety and depression. Dud have an endoscopy 18 months ago but they found nothing apart from a tiny polyp which the consultant insisted is not causing my problems. Im at my wits end. Just got a flooding period after 3 months so energy is rock bottom

Hi Michelle, I also just finished a heavy, prolonged period after nothing for several months. I'm sorry you are going through this too but isn't it reassuring to know we're not the only ones and it is normal for perimenopause. I'm concentrating on my stomach at the moment. I started Nexium, Fungilin,

lemon juice in hot water and probiotics today. I took the anti fungal only an hour ago and just finished the lemon water. About 15 minutes my stomach just 'deflated' quite a bit and now I'm calmer. I think much of my anxiety was due to what was going on with my stomach which is why I'm concentrating on that at the moment. Thank God for forums like this so we can share similar experiences. It resolves a lot of fear. I hope we all find relief soon.

I was 169 pounds when this all started and I went down to 142 pounds in two months.   I know what you mean.  My heartburn is still an issue.  I'm now on delixant and it has helped.  Prozac as well.

      Hi Jackie,

I too am desperate for help. My biggest problems at the moment seem to be imsommia, high anxiety, and depression. Did the Prozac help? I have tried low dose estrogen birth control, minastrin, and combipatch. Now Dr wants to try antidepressants. Have you had any luck?

I too have had masses of symptoms including the tightening of the chest. I thought I could ease your mind by telling you what my doc explained to me. Your hormones and adrenalin are normally balanced by your pituitory gland. When your hormones start going haywire, too much adrenalin is released which causes the chest tightness. Becoming anxious at feeling this, because it feels like you're having a heart attack, makes more adrenalin rush through your body, making it even worse. It's terrifying. My hubby rushed me to A&E, as he thought I was about to die! People tell you to relax and just breathe normally, distract your mind and it will go away. This is fine during the day when you are occupied and there's people around you. Not so good at 3am when everyone else is asleep. I've been having this for 7 months now, and I'm still trying to cope with it when it happens. Scary times, but you're the first person I've found that also experiences this. Even though I don't like the thought of anyone elde suffering this, it's so good to know I'm not alone.

      Hi

I to have the tightness of chest and like a burning feeling in pit of throat. It is quite frightening but I do try and relax. At least I know now it is perimenopausal

This is a very good information

      Now I know it's adrenalin

Because every time I start to worry of anything in just few seconds I feel like in realeasing something and my body starts this low grade fever followed by chest tightness. And my doctor can't explain why😤

You are not going crazy even though I know it feels like that. I am 44 and have been going through perimenopause for four years. It has been horrible. Worse then pregnancy and my four pregnancies were terrible. Since starting peri I have had xanthelasma spots form on my eyelids which are suppose to be from high cholesterol but after being checked this is not the case. I get night sweats and around my period, which is so unpredictable I stopped marking it on the calendar, I get heart palpitations and anxiety and just think Im having a heart attack. Sleeping all night is impossible because of the sweating and also I have a thing called frozen hip which hurts all night long.  Extremely painful and my bf had to sell his motorcycle because I couldnt spread my legs far enough to sit behind him. it was just too painful. So I guess I can add that that rules out sex too. Not only is it painful for my hip but now I have pain in my ovary when I orgasm. Also the weight gain has been steady and I dont eat very much. I have had to cutout all sugar and cut down to 600 calories per day plus walke two miles every single day to even see any results in weigh loss. I have to add that since I have been doing this I do feel some change in my mood and my symptoms. Oh I forgot to add that Im nauseated all of the time. I cant even watch movies with blood in it for it cause me to throw up. My stomach is so sensitive. I will continue to excercise and my diet and hopefully I can reduce these symptoms and begin feeling normal again. I hope you have found something that is helping you. Why cant men go throught this? havnt we been through enough giving life and all?
