I cannot take this....is this a flare up?

Posted , 7 users are following.

I feel like a lot of my issues have been around my backside more than my vaginal area. With that being said I did a little bad with my diet around Easter and have been suffering since! I have been itchy and up at night, sore as can be and now seem really red. I have not changed my twice a week clob dosage because I am not sure what to do and I fear over applying. I have tried diaper rash cream and a smaller dosage of a steroid cream that I was prescribed for hemorrhoids before my LS diagnosis. I cannot take this anymore!!!! Any advice is welcomed. Thank you!!!!

I find using emuaid at a time like that reduces my need for steroid. It's natural and brings so much relief. It sounds like you are having a flareup. I had a terrible flareup last spring ( hence a diagnosis finally after prob 25-30 years of some degree of suffering) Itching was intense/ lose your mind kind of itching and my LS spread like crazy. Now I have the classic figure 8. Have you tried baking soda baths? Reducing sugar in your diet?

Thank you for your reply.  I have tried the baking soda baths and they are a relief but then as the day goes on I feel worse again.  I did reduce sugar and was strictly watching my diet but then Easter came and we had a few parties and with that came the alcohol, sugar (I did really try to watch this but had a few slip ups) and not so healthy food.  Then add to that sex and some pretty long runs.

I am back on my strict diet and eliminating sugar/alcohol.  I am just suffereing right now.  I feel like it has a been a few weeks of not feeling so good but this past week has been horrible.  I know I did this to myself.  I am hoping that I get over this quickly.  smile

I might break down and by the emuaid.  I have tried their soap but never the ointment.

      Thanks again!

I've been careless for weeks and I'm paying. So mad at myself. When will I learn? I'm struggling also- itching especially. I really hate this condition. I'm not much encouragement in this right now cause I'm upset also. I have learned though, that unhealthy diet, stress and sweat are my big triggers.

I know.  I feel like I know what I need to do but sometimes slip up.  I just need to accept it and live a new lifestyle.  It is just hard sometimes.  I have three young children and balancing the kids, activities, a husband, two part time jobs, and then trying to take care of myself just gets overwhelming.  I am really trying to find some relaxation time but life gets in the way.  smile  Hang in!  We will get through this one.

Those special days ... when 'the flesh gets weak'.  You're only human Melissa.  I'm sure that when you are in your regular rythm again you'll soon recover from this ordeal.

It is for this reason that I've become not very fond of those special days in the year - Easter, Christmas among other.  The times when your mind thinks that you can make 'an exception'.  But we'll always end up paying afterwards.  For that reason I have some 'special treats' that are safe and that calm my desire  somewhat and thus I avoid being tempted.

A friend of mine always said:  taste is only five or so inches long. (the length of your tongue)  and after that you're stuck with it for much longer.  (ha)

Well isn't that the truth.  I have never thought of it that way.  I will always remember that before I take a bite.  Thank you!

Hi, I agree, this sounds like a flare.  It can be anywhere in the figure 8 area, including around the anus.  Try to keep the area moisturised.  Some people find organic olive oil helpful and other ideas are emu oil and coconut oil.  An ice pack might help, too.  Try to be gentle with the area when toileting - anything touching the area should be toxin and perfume free, even organic if possible.  I find baths with epsom salts work well, combined with moisturising and a strict diet.  I also use the diaper cream when it is enflamed (find one with zinc for healing).  Good luck!  I hope you get on top of it.

it is your toilet paper that is the culprit. I have had burning like chemical burns for over 25 years, such as yours...without sounding like a broken record, as I have posted alot about this on here, try and buy non-recycled, chemical free toilet paper. its super hard to find, but i managed to find virgin paper made from bamboo, not recycled (how can one 'clean garbage'? its still garbage..and poisonous, at that) ... try a health food store or go online. I just ordered some and will let you know if it works without a hitch. Until that comes, I am back to wiping with a damp rag. its a pain in the rump, to do this, but the burning i was feeling was driving me mad. can you imagine living like this for 25+ years? that was me, until i found it was the toilet paper...i had borrowed a roll from a neighbor when i ran out (super embarrasing!) and within 3 hours it seemed my burning, that i have endured for years, just stopped! i ran, not walked, to the store and bought my neighbor's brand of t.p.  For a month, i felt like a normal person...NO PAINFUL BURNING! then over the weekend, i went to buy more of the tp, but to my horror, the company changed it! the texture is different and the burning has resumed! i cried, cried, cried...literally. then i went online to look for 'chemical free, non recycled toilet paper', and it is virtually non existent. everything is recycled...which is BAD for our bottoms! let alone bad to injest anything on recycled paper plates/cups, etc.  sooooo, i found the bamboo paper, non recycled, and just ordered a 4-pack to try. if i find no irritation from this, I will write my review for all to see, on this forum. God bless you....try and use a damp washcloth, and apply lanolin or k.y. jelly to the affected parts until you, too, can find a paper-toilet paper alternative.

It's a thought I had just the other day - toilet paper, but also pads for monthly periods.  I think I will start a seperate topic of discussion on this.

I 100% agree with pads.  I am really struggling with what to use for my monthly cycles.  It is so frustrauting that everything seems to irritate me.

One thing that seems to help me is switching from my usual cold pressed olive oil to Vaseline during my period. Vaseline isn't as healthy but provides a very effective barrier. Keep that blood and pad irritation off the skin.

there are pad alternatives, thankfully, that arent monopolized (sp) by Kimberly-Clark. Google 'Pure cotton pads without chemicals' and there is alot to choose from.  I wish toilet paper was this easy! That is where my problem is. I have an 'Issue with the Tissue'! ha...

This surprises me. I am in NZ and use a paper which is made here and has been for many years. The word recyclable doesn't come up on our packaging. But the words hypo allergenic and ink free and dye and fragrance free do. Also a story on the pack about how the paper comes from a sustainable source respecting the environment etc etc. it's pure white, not that bleached stuff which went the rounds a while back and proved to be worse for our skins and didn't flush away.

I can't see that I could want any other assurances from a company.

thats my experience anyway. The name begins with an S and ends with a T, maybe you have it there, but maybe not.

As for pads, I had a hysterectomy at aged 30 so they don't effect me, but I did use very thin incontinence pads for a few years until my gynae told me not to if I didn't really have to. Which I didn't, was wearing them 'just in case'. But years ago she warned me not to use talcum powder near that area as there were trials going on re cervical cancer being linked to that. I stopped then and there using talc. There are so many toxins in this world now as opposed to when I was young 50 years ago.

Oh! I wonder what I said wrong there ......  Maybe it was alluding to a toilet  paper brand even if I didn't spell it out. ☺️

Sometimes we're 'eaten' by the monitor.  I don't always understand the reason.
