I feel like this will never get better

Not ganna make this to long because most of u that had this will probably know. I need answers( someone plz help me) I’m on day 2 had no bowel movement and I know/feel like I could then the pain is just so bad, feels like I’m getting stabbed with a knife.  I even ate regular food and my stool soften and some mirlax and still cannot go. I know there is cloth up in my butt. When does that come out? After first bowel movement? Can I pull it out if I get my fingers up there? I know that is what is making this harder to let gas go. I’m just loaded with gas. Is it normal if I still don’t go to the bathroom on day 3?

Dan, I feel your pain! I had surgery last week. I would recommend calling your doctor but mine told me, “if I did not have a BM after 2 days at home, I could take the gauze out myself”. I don’t want to freak you out but I ended up having to go to the ER to have them help me get the gauze out, I tried in the shower but by the time the gauze was starting to go down the drain, and still inside me, I couldn’t pull anymore and headed to the hospital. I think this is rather abnormal from what I have read however. If your doctor says you can take it out, I recommend getting in the shower to do this and let the water run over you as you gently pull it out. Hope all works out!!

Thanks jason I hope u get better also! And I honestly think that is the biggest problem /the gauze, it’s not letting me get my gas threw. My doctor told me not to pull it out. But my dad had his done years ago and he pulled his out and filled the tub with blood, but was a lot easier to let gas go and finally have bowel movement. I can’t even feel the end of the gauze with my finger. It must be really far up. Thanks for ur respond. This just sucks so bad

Dan, CALL THE DOCTOR!! That is what you're supposed to do and don't wait because the weekend is beginning!

ALWAYS call the doctor!! You may get the nurse but that's fine, she is part of the process. CALL THE DOCTOR!!!

Hi thanks for the respond, I did and talked to the nurse she said to go get sometging to help me go I wrote it down but forget the name something with milk, so this is not normal what I’m going threw?

It is definitely normal! The pain meds from the hospital and meds at home just constipate you. Not to mention the binging foods you also had and has you bowl not wanting to move. You have to remember you just had a painful surgery with a part of the body that has loads of nerves! Again, this is definitely normal- they probably said to get some milk of magnesia to help get your stool soft and to get things moving.

I agree, definitely call your doctor! They know how much, how far, and how they put the gauze plugged it in you. The ER doctor literally had to rip it out of me..

I feel your pain with not letting the gas out, it was 5 days before I finally had a BM and that was with eating soft foods and taking stool softnners. After several sleepless nights and SEVERAL hours of reading online, all I can say it the recovery is much worse and longer ban anyone thinks when first going into it. Preparation H wipes and tucks pads with witchazel has been the only way I have been able to clean up after a BM and then end up showering and bathing as well. This is seriously just one brutal recovery. I know everyone says it but I think then most important and non negotiable action items are to drink LOTS of water, eat soft foods, and try not to strain when going. I know app easier than said but hang in there. Hopefully this is all for a much better feeling down the road!

No worries at all, seriously feel free to ask all the questions you want! I know the feeling all too well and I’m still in your shoes looking for answers! You are correct, I personally was not able to get a BM until after I went to the ER and got the gauze removed. However, everyone is different and from what I understand, most are able to get the gauze out with a BM with no problem. I just personally did not have any luck. I’m not going to lie, it was VERY painful!

Thanks for support. I am not looking forward to my first bowel movement but I am in a way.  I just got a feeling it will help with some of this pain that is from gas that I cannot release but I definitely belive u when u say it’s ganna be painful. So I guess hurry up and let it come, do u think this is the worst part of it? Even thou so far it all sucks really really bad. But the first bowel movement the worst or does it even get worse after? Plz say that is ganna be the worst of it. / after surgery I was thinking to myself, this wasn’t that bad not till I find out hours later when numbness wears off. Worst pain u can ever go threw / that I have ever experienced and I’m on day 3

I couldn’t agree more, the day of surgery I was happy I did it because it was just uncomfortable but then the numbness wore off and the misery began.. the gauze and the BM’s have definitely been the most severe of the pain for me! However I still have a LOT of swelling and that causes a good bit of pain/ uncomfortableness. The BM’s are the most pain tho for sure! I’m still so swollen and sore that it still hurts when I pass gas as well. Just hang in there, there is a bunch of swelling in there and your body is just fighting to recover. Rest and be gently on yourself back there!

Ok Jason thanks. I just hope I get a bowel movement tonight, and let me know when u are almost in the Clair ! When u feel a lot of relief? And how long has it been since your surgery again?? I know u didn’t have a bowel movement for 5days, looks like I’m heading same direction as u

I had my surgery last Thursday.. I will let you know how things progress. I think mine might be a little worse than others so I don’t want to scare you though.. I’ve had mine for 15 years (had the staple surgery 10 years ago and it did not work). Drink lots of water and take the milk of magnesia, you will eventually use the bathroom. Don’t stress about it.. it will come!

Now the gauze came out and I feel a lot of relive cuz I am letting gas go but still no bm, the gauze that came out looked like a piece of my fat tissue but it had to be the gauze or I wouldn’t of got relieve. Now just waiting to go to the bathroom I think it’s ganna happen finally. So weird what the gauze looked like. U didn’t get to see yours because the er took it out. I’m not ganna lie was def scared because it didn’t look like gauze but I think it has to be and ok I appreciate the updates !
