I have a continual, deep pain/ache in practically the whole of my leg. I use ice on it (frozen peas!) a great deal of the time and I take my pain killers. At night I cannot sleep because there is nowhere New I can put my leg which does not become become equally painful within a few seconds. Anybody else have this problem? Also, I had to stop taking Diclofenac a few days before the op. How long before I can take it again?

    Hi Ann

You are doing great and if was told to put e45 cream on the scar I'm 6 weeks on and nowhere near your bend. But my scR is almost invisible just a fine line ..so the e45 must work

    good luck

Hello, trust me I feel your pain.i had a total knee replacement  4 weeks ago tomorrow. Pain is just a given! However I stopped taking the prescribed pain meds because they make you "sleep" . I insure the pain!. I now go to therapy and am doing more strenuous exercise which I might add constitutes more pain. So now I take a 1/2 of Bayer aspirin, ice my knee area for 20 minutes and try to relax and think positive thoughts. I am 67 years old but I am 50 at heart......I am going to beat this! Stay positive (I know that doesn't take away the pain) but just keeping thinking, "this too shall pass and get better".

Positive thoughts ....I wonder if they come with age I'm 76 and like you I won't let this beat me...my head says I'm 50 too ...the trouble is that makes me younger than 4 of my children ,...lol

at least none of us has had our sense of humour amputated ...just a bit of worn out bone from our knees

I just wrote this to make you all smile

      AGE IS JUST A NUMBER

Age is just a number; be it large or small,

It's never going to get me down; No never! at all,

My Brain got stuck at an age I like; I'm 50 through and through,

Whatever age you want to be, the choice is up to you,

If 21 or 40 is the age you want to be,

Who's to say you're wrong; just change your age like me,

You only get one crack at life; how you live it is up to you,

So just pretend you're young again; and to you it will be True.

    Hi everyone,

I am so glad I found you.

I live in Perth, Western Australia. I had my TKR 5 weeks ago today.

I had a problem with excessive swelling and I have still not reached that 90 degree bend. My surgeon has mentioned a lot of times that if I don't get the 90 soon he will do a manipulation, this scares me. My mood swings are amazing, some days I can't stop crying.

5 weeks is still early when you have had a lot of swelling , if you have to go in again i hear it s ok , before i had my first knee done the man in front of the surgeory list was haveing that done , he was fine and went home for dinner time . and i remember those mood swings , when nothing any one does for you is right and you just cry and cant controle your moods , this also is all to do with the op and will ease with time . you still have a long way to go but you will get there so dont worrie , good luck and remember to look after your self first /x

Thanks Debbie, it's such a relief to hear that if I have to have a manipulation that it won't be another stay in hospital. Everything went wrong with my operation, from the spinal block not working, and having to have a general on top! To a stupid nurse who read my file wrong and refused me painkillers all day, she was reading, every 1 hour as every 7 hours. To the physio who insisted forcing my sumo leg was a good idea.

Still, I am hobbling to the Rolling Stones concert tomorrow, supported by my 6 ft husband and son! Thanks

Hi Ann......I have been just taking BAYER 3.25 for pain. Sleepless nights, yeah me too. Toss and turn, toss and turn. I'll be happy for a full night sleep without pain! The prescribed drugs are too long lasting and I don't like the drowsy feeling.
